Another One Bites The Dust...

Well Word, those 2 artists you just mentioned (since I truly don't respect neither of them because they aren't that good) are considered "hitmakers". Clear Channel used to allow former WGCI PD/Chicago urban cluster OM, Elroy Smith, do some local stuff during the mixes on Friday nights and weekends. Usually when WGCI did play local artists in regular it was the alright established or the R&B ones like R. Kelly, Avant, Syleena Johnson since Smith was known to be "anti-trap muzik" oriented rap at all. Even when those songs did make its hit-wise, Smith would only allow minor spins at night from 6-10PM just to say , "WGCI did play song X". However, during those days WGCI was banking CC major revenue and ratings. WGCI along KMEL in SF Bay Area, Power 105.1 in NYC, were the "flagship stations" of the CC urban radio division since they were among the major moneymakers for Clear Channel. Now, it's just Power 105.1 & KMEL.

Crawford doesn't like nor do they care about the urban format, they just found it lucrative to compete with WGCI & V-103 to pull in some of that revenue that WGCI was pulling. Chicago urban music hasn't been the same since right since the days when Gannett owned WGCI.

Actually enough, I believe that Crawford cares more about Urban than they do Urban AC. They pretty much abandoned any hint of UAC since the Groove and Soul was cut, as well as a Rockford Rhythmic format. That shows they do have interest in Urban & Hip Hop, which is contrary to most corporations this year.

"HIT Makers" are plenty in Chicago. No one gives them a chance on the radio though, and thats my overall point, when other markets play locals in rotation alot, Chicago really always showed minimial support is what I mean.

But enough, cuz I will just be repeating my point now, good discussion. Bye Chi~~

o my seem Chi-town radio is a mess. I don't listen to Kmel but i live in NYC. Power 105.1 seem to be doing their own thing compare to the rest of CC urban stations that i have heard. AS for power in chi-town is their ratings low because of their signal in their city?

Signal yes it does have some static and trouble downtown, especially on Lake Shore Drive right around the S-curve it gets completely crushed out from bleedover from another station. Being in Hammond they still have limited downtown signal, and WGCI gets scratchy in places so you can imagine. Funny thing is that 106.3 is overall fine downtown but gets lost further northwest.

I'm guessing Crawford is not really into improving their signal if they still profiting.

you want elroy smith back in chicago you can have him

he killed 100.3 the beat in philly fired the pd then did things his way then he stepped down from the pd spot only to run praise 103.9 and WRNB he wont even let lady b play old school hip-hop on WRNB

With Star and Buc now on a Radio One station, where could this lead to? Syndication One does a good job with Ricky Smiley which is one most Radio One stations, but Russ Parr,.....???

Star and Bucwild are only viable in the Philly-NYC corridor...

i don't see star & buc wild going into syndication because Ricky Smiley is picking up a lot of stations. I listen to his show a couple of times its good but i feel it better on a southern urban radio station because he is heavy on the gospel, and a lot of hip-hop radio stations up north don't really touch gospel maybe on Sunday's only.

As for Russ Parr its my opinion but i think his show so boring , and dull i first listen to him when radio one was in Boston then years later i listen to him in Richmond, Va on ipower92.1. i have a feeling they are going to let him go pretty soon.
