Dingo Leaves The Wolf And Moves To The Ranch
CUMULUS Country KPLX (99.5 THE WOLF)/DALLAS Morning Show Producer DINGO is leaving the station to take the PD reigns at LKCM RADIO GROUP Country KFWR (95.9 THE RANCH)/FT. WORTH. He will replace RICK LOVETT, who vacated THE RANCH back in MAY to start WINDING ROAD MUSIC. DINGO's first day on the job will be WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 1.

This leaves an opening at THE WOLF and PD JOHN SEBASTIAN is on the prowl. If you are interested, send your resume to him at [email protected].

It's gotta suck over there...

Dingo, will not last long and its not going to be his fault. It appears the ownership group likes to blowout people there in a very short time.

Congrats, Ding...Knock 'em dead brother....Play us some
80's and 90's stuff mixed in with the new, and for god's sake
get them to give us a citywide sig on that puppy, someway,
somehow...!

I hardly listen, cause 90% of the time I can't pick the damn
station up... :-\ Too bad they're broadcasting to cows in
Mineral Wells and Stephenville....

Even if he can't get the better coverage, it'll be a great
training ground for him, to move on to bigger and better things..

That's something I don't understand about 95.9. Why can't they move the transmitter closer in? The closest thing to the left is 95.3 and closest to the right is 96.3. And from what I understand the owners have deep pockets. I've had friends from Dallas come over and go out in Sundance Square and see the studios and remark "I didn't know we had a 95.9". :-\

They say they're in the process of upgrading....but they've been saying that forever. Niiiiice studios right in downtown FW.

If deep pockets was the answer, would KTYS, KESN, KSOC, KRNB, KZZA, KFZO, etc. be where they are?

They can't move because of FCC spacing requirements -- the same problem all the other rimshots have (93.7, 94.5, 95.3, 96.7, 98.3, 99.1, etc.). KFWR is a class C1 FM. 2nd adjacent KSCS is a full class C. The FCC requires a C-C1 2nd adjacent pair to be at least 65 miles apart. So, draw a circle 65 miles from Cedar Hill, and that's as close as KFWR can get to KSCS. At present, KFWR is 68 miles from KSCS' Cedar Hill transmitter. So, it can only move 3 miles closer than it is now (if only factoring KSCS).

KFWR is also constrained by distances to KJKB 95.5 Jacksboro and KKAJ-FM 95.7 Ardmore OK that prevent moves north or northeast along that 65 mile circle from Cedar Hill that would put it closer to where 93.7/96.7/99.1/101.7/106.7 are. So, it is basically stuck broadcasting from west of Fort Worth.

Now, LKCM owns KFWR and KKAJ-FM now. KKAJ-FM could be downgraded by them to solve that spacing issue. However, they would still have to deal with KJKB. 2nd adjacent A-C1s have to be about 45 miles apart. KFWR and KJKB are actually closer than that right now. If KKAJ and KJKB are fixed, it is possible they could move NNE around that circle from Cedar Hill to provide something better (assuming that doesn't cause spacing issues with other 95.9s like KCKL 95.9 Malakoff, LKCM's KYBE 95.9 Frederick, ...).

Whoa - is that necessary? There happens to be a major audience in Stephenville and I promise you - a lot of them are NOT listening to the ranch.

Ok, then who ARE they listening to? Please enlighten us.

Even if they do have a large listening audience out there in
Stephenville, we're only talking about 17 thousand, as opposed
to 6 MILLION if they were able to have a full coverage
METRO WIDE signal. That was the point I was making
is that these rimshots are at the security fence perimeter, and
trying their damndest to be with the big boys, but they just
can't. Sad thing is, many have good programming that is a
refreshing change to the super researched "CLINICAL"
nature of the DFW major players with the sticks at Cedar Hill.

They listen to Mandatory FM 98.5/107.9. They listen to the heritage station KSTV 93.1. They listen to 92.1 and a few tune into a local classic country station 89.7. And I'm sure some D/FW stations as well.

And just so you know the population in Stephenville is just at 15,000. That does not include the student body at Tarleton State University so tack on approximately another 6 to 7 thousand there when school is in session.

...too bad they're broadcasting to cows? I understand that Stephenville and Mineral Wells are not metro areas - and I understand the coverage point you were making. Trust me - I truly understand as someone who grew up in Richardson and moved to Stephenville - it isn't a big city. But don't the people here count for anything? You gotta call us all cows? It's not as rural around here as it once was. Just look at Granbury. It's growing like crazy. All you big city big shots are getting out of the city and moving this direction.

But I digress - my original point was that there are a LOT of people out here who love that kind of music. I wasn't trying to pick a fight. But don't call us cows.

or herefords, tumbleweeds, cowpokes, yayhoos,sh! Kickers, rednecks, horse humpers, saddle citizens.. You get the idea..so there!;)
