Another one gone...

Too bad about the loss of music. KHAR 590 was also AM Stereo, but I'm not sure how recent that was. I was stationed up there 1978-80 when KHAR played elevator music.

Dial-wise, they are right next door to KTZN 550 the Zone, also sports. Might cause some confusion there on analog radios.

They called themselves "Heart-Radio 59" back in late 70s when I was stationed in Aleutians. They were the typical 70s/80s era Easy-Listening/Beautiful Music" station, and they had outstanding ratings, as there were no FM Easy listening stations in Anchorage until KNIK-FM went to EZL in early 80s.
At night they covered much of Western and South Central Alaska..When I left Alaska after retiring from the service in 1999 they were still EZL/Soft AC. At over 275 miles they put a solid signal onto Kodiak Island during the day...Those 5000 watts really travelled down Cook Inlet into the Gulf of Alaska.
I had a real nice poster they issued back in early 80s of a Ptarmigan, painted by a Native Alaskan artist entitled "Camai; A warm Alaskan Hello" that graced the wall of my apartment for 15 years.
Sorry to see them switch formats; but Anchorage is a pretty young audience..I'm actually surprised they lasted this long.
