another "outside of the box" idea

anyone ever think of building an AM longwave transmitter using class e output
and coupling that to the 50 ft radiator with a tapped toroid output?

basically a rangemaster for long wave.

seems to me we could have 3 frequencies in am mode.

165, 175, and 185 khz.

we could have a 600 ohm balanced input.

we could even make them in ssb, cw, and digital modes.

seems something like this over a 50 foot radial system would perform great.


there are lots of possibilities with this type of system. stl, longwave b,casting, longwave qrp dx'ing, etc.


maybe some of the math geniuses here can chime in on what kind of antenna system
bandwidth and performance to expect.
 
Not sure those "Low-fer" guys would appreciate AM on top of their slow-CW signals, but then it couldn't be any worse than "the graveyard channels" :)
Check out http://www.lwca.org I could see SSB working. Digital - DRM? Is there a way to obtain the specifications for how a DRM signal is produced?

I'm all for the idea myself. From what I've read, the range of these LW part15 installations is about 2 miles max with a good LW receiver and at least a 50' antenna. But then, other than amateurs/hams and hobbyists, who would be able to pick up the signal? Perhaps someone could manufacture super-sensitive LW receivers and give them/sell them to their neighbors? Otherwise little to no audience ...):

But I do know LW has excellent ionospheric skip, depending where you have your xmitter/antenna......

And down below, LW can be heard far more easily on submarines than AM (and especially FM.) That's a fact. It probably doesn't mean much to an LW station in Nebraska, but if you're in a coastal area by a Navy base.......

Fidelity is REALLY low though......
