ANOTHER PIRATE RADIO STATION DORCHESTER, MA AREA

I was in Ashmont area of Dorchester, and heard 98.9. It was some kind of Caribbean Programming (??? Maybe Hatian) This was around 5pm Friday afternoon

So many in Dorchester area

Entercom should just bring back Star 93.7, put PartybluesandOldies on the overnights and Saturday afternoons, and put some Urban AC Radio Shows on weekends. They should just see, and understand what is going on in Boston. Star 93.7 should just return. That's just my idea

If not 93.7,

then, MIX 98.5 should change to "Fresh" 98.7, and be Rhythmic AC, and play PartyBluesandOldies on the overnight and Saturday afternoons, and have some Urban AC programming on weekends.

Somethings's gotta be done in Boston to get either an Urban AC station or Rhymathis AC station.

Seattle, Wa has Hip Hop, Urban AC, and PartyBluesandOldies, what about Boston? Something's got to be done here, that's just my thought

I don't think 98.9 is new.
I don't know what a failed dance station or urban AC has to do with Haitian/Caribbean music.

it's just a thought, no harm to no one

There's so many Urban AC, and Caribbean Pirate radio stations that you can ONLY get in Dorchester/Roxbury area. Doesn't anyone understand the trend that is going on? The message there, is that Boston needs to get an Urban AC, or Rhythmic AC station.
There are people out there who like Urban AC music. Maybe you all don't like it, but there are people out there who does.

Entercom must be happy with 93.7; I don't know their 25-54s but it does halfway decent in 12 plus and
has low overhead ("no DJs") and as Mrs. Carlson pointed out in the first episode of "WKRP", "...this radio
station is a business." No doubt they did research to see what kind of station would earn them the most
money. Maybe some day they might feel they could get an audience with ethnic, soul, foreign language,
minority-oriented, or whatever. (In the 12 plus, they were just shy of WBCN last period and beat WBCN
the two periods before that. Yes, they're 16th overall, but to get half decent ratings with a glorified Ipod...
And for all I know the 25-54s might be even better.
But yes, if they switched and could get a bigger audience..

98.9 is right next to Easy 99.1...maybe they will complain

>>MIX 98.5 should change to "Fresh" 98.7

if CBS were to do that maybe they'd do it as a glorified jukebox to save money (and add DJs if it worked)

Entercom got their hands on 99.7 and switched it from hip hop to a simulcast of WAAF. The only color
they care about is green, as in the color of money.

Damn what happened to my home town. :-\ When i left u had hot977, star937,wild and even Jamn sounded decent. Now it looks like it devolved back to the mid-eighties. When all u had was college stations and ild for anything other than rock and pop. No wonder your seeing all these pirates popping up.

Yes, we understand the trend. We understand it perfectly. It goes like this: People with no regard for the law simply break it when it suits them, because not only do they like this kind of music, they think everyone else has to hear it too.

So tell us: How much money do they make doing this? Is it enough to run a business? Pay people? Pay taxes? Pay insurance? Pay for music rights? Pay rent or a lease? Pay for decent equipment? Did you ever stop to think, just for a second, why these formats don't exist in this market?

At the risk of repeating a line that's used more often than Rapking's "Boston radio sucks!": Radio is a business. Programming a radio station based on personal taste seldom works. Just because you like it, and some other people like it, does NOT mean that it's enough to sustain a business. There is no NEED for these formats. You want 'em? There's always the Internet.

Give it a rest already.

Something may happen with formats when one of the pirates shows up in a ratings diary like it did in the Orlando Fla. market recently.
