Hello all, I wanted to post this because I was able to win tickets to the WFNX disorientation show on Saturday. While there I had a chance to meet a few of the players including a couple of part time dj's. Unfortunately I wasn't able to drop my on air demo in the hands of the PD, which means there won't be a Hurricane on WFNX for a few more weeks/months. I kept my identity secret when I met Charlie, Special Ed, and Big Jim, they were all friendly and seemed to be enjoying the show. The bands were great and the weather was perfect. Without sounding like an apologist or creepy, I am thankful we have a station in town that brings bands and shows to us. So to the people at WFNX thanks for the show and to the Saturday afternoon DJ who I won my tickets from, keep being awesome!
 
I also attended that show, great bands no one else in town would ever promote. The Kooks, Does It Offend You, Yeah? Flogging Molly, Alkaline Trio and Anberlin.

You are probably better off that you didn't run into the PD to drop off your demo at a station show. Too much stuff going on at the venue to deal with that!!

I like the Slow Jams show on Thursday nights 10pm-Midnight. They play non stop slow jams mixes. The content of the show could improove (they let the listenners come on there and say bad words) , other then that, I like the music mixes
They also play a wide variety of Caribbean Music (both new, current, and old early 90s-now)
 
I like peanut butter, however....this information like the last two posts have nothing to do with the topic at being discussed.

Like Dane Cook? Seriously, I don't think it's to advance their persoanl agenda, I think it's just to irritate people on the board.

excellent advice for anyone applying for a radio gig. while you may feel that slipping them a demo at a station event is your chance to get your foot in the door, it is actually a pretty unprofessional move and will not impress that PD. Believe it or not, at such an event, they are actually working. Listening to a demo is the furthest thing from their interests at the moment.

You're better off doing what you did - just chill, enjoy the event, meet any staff you can, converse about the event itself, then later, when you mail/email the demo, begin your letter with "it was terriffic meeting you at...". They'll remember how professional and cool you were, and that may encourage them to listen to your demo instead of tossing it in the circular demo file.
 
MoLarry is right... Those sorts of events are always at least 10 times more complicated behind the scenes than they seem. I can't remember an FNX gig that didn't have me running from one end of Government Center to the other fixing three-or-four different things!

Use the time to network. It's always good to walk into potential employment knowing you already have a rapport with the guys hiring you and having that "it was great meeting you at blah blah blah..." line can help a cover letter stand out.

In this industry, probably more than any other, it is ALL in "who you know."
 
Thanks for all of the advice. Although I have heards stories of people slipping a demo to a PD during an event and getting hired. I guess it just depends on the mood of each PD and what you can bring to the table. Hurricane needs a nap now, worked an overnight shift and am beat.
