Another processing question

I've seen a lot of post on S.S and BBP dsp processors. But I have not notice anything about StereoTool 3.40.
I have tried BBP and it's good but I think Stereotool is slightly better although I'm only using a on board audio card and maybe I can't process the to/from BBP correctly...although as high as 192000 khz the card goes.

Just FYI....3.4ghz 2gig ram dual core ASZU motherboard Realtek HD audio 5.1

My opinion is that Stereotool has a crappy transmitter adjustment and stereo pilot/RDS if you don't have a stereo coder/RDS box for your transmitter that makes it better than BBP...and cheaper!!(Just a hobby for me)
A stand alone and plug-in versions avail..
Kinda resource heavy though but runs smoothly....at least on my p.c.

Any comments?
Thanks

Stereo Tool is an okay Winamp plug in, but that's also its problem: It's a Winamp plug in. Winamp is not that stable for long time usage. I use Spider player for playing my files and it runs flawlessly for many weeks at a time. Winamp only runs for a week at best without getting squirrely. Stereo Tool also isn't quite as smooth as Breakaway (which isn't a plug in but a stand alone program that can run with ANY player). For free it's a pretty good processor though-one of the better free ones in fact. That said, you get what you pay for and with Stereo Tool you're paying nothing.

I see they have a stand alone version now. That would be the way to go-but I'm still sticking with Breakaway myself.

At one point we ran a WinAmp on a student radio station as the automation and had absolutely no problems with it. In fact, it ran stand-alone the whole summer without a hiccup...

Most of the time it's the plugin rather than Winamp that makes it buggy. Winamp without fancy homebrew plugins runs just fine, for me at least.

Agreed. Stand alone, it works fantastic. Unfortunately Stereo Tool is one of the worst and has crashed Winamp and my machine more times than I want to recognize. It does have issues with on-board sound cards as well. Save yourself the hassle and get the Breakaway. You will not regret it. Best computer based processor on the market.

Well I use SAM 4 with stereotool as a plug-in not the stand alone ver.
I don't use winamp with plug-ins for the reason stated above...although SAM 4 gets squirmy at times.
I guess I'll pony up $200 and get BBP (maybe). I am getting good sound though with ST.
???....Have notice that ST is kinda slow in the attack and release, that I can hear but most others don't.
$200 hmmm
Too bad they don't offer refunds if you have buyers remorse....yea I know the trial version.
Thanks for the help.

El Chupacabras you were right!! I ponied up $200 and bought BBP and what a difference $200 makes..lol
It uses much less cpu..37 now was 63 cpu pwr with Stereo Tool but it uses a tad bit more ram,(maybe due to background programs.. Must admit sounds better than the old 8100 boat anchor Orban I have which has a more softer sound. Seems to me the paid ver. of BBP sounds better than the trial...maybe because I paid for it.

I'll give a week and if doesn't crash my machine I'll throw another thank you your way. ;D

Thanks for the lookin out!

I've looked at Breakaway 10 ways to Sunday on spectrum analyzers, a Microgen multi-signal analyzer, I've listened to it on tons of different radios...it stands toe-to-toe with expensive broadcast processors...and they haven't even released the full control version yet. Gadzooks!

I too am a recent convert to the Breakaway Processor. The psychoacoustic properties are incredible. I have used others and frankly they just do not compare.
