Another Pummel by Pamal ??

First John Lawrence and JB were chased out, and the question here is .. Was "DJ Vince #1" (Who wasn't allowed to use the #1 on the air) chased out of the Merchant's Row Madhouse by the "Professor of Programming" and the "EEO Requirement" ? Not only was he great on the air on both Z 97 and WSYB Sports, wasn't he was one of the top billers in the joint ? Discuss.

I hear that others are leaving too...not sure of the names, but looks like the clock on the wall is ticking even louder...can you hear it?

Who will be left? Perhaps the building will be empty...Maybe just in time for the building to collapse!

It seems that Pamal Rutland's infectious magic touch of business operations has impacted Z 97 / WSYB as well.. I do not hear many commercials there, though the station pretty good overall. Losing Vince's "Bat" in the sales lineup I'm sure will have a huge impact.. WSYB sounds even less full, though hearing the PSA for 'farting' all the time just kills me ! I'm sure the Pamal brains in Albany will not look at the first year of this deal as a success, though the means are there that it should be a success. We'll see if there's any juice left in the "Official Ski and Ride Station"..

"I do not hear many commercials there, though the station pretty good overall".. Should have proof read it better.. should read.. "Though the station sounds pretty good overall"... Sorry about that chief.. ;D

What is this obsession with Vince "1"? Isn't the guy's name Vince? I guess I just don't understand why it's always referenced like it's a travesty that the guy isn't called Vince1 on the air. If he's a salesman, does he introduce himself as Vince1 to clients?

"DJ Vince 1" hosted a show called the "Thursday Night Thunderstorm" on Z 97 / 97.1 Kiss-FM for quite a while until the "Gurus" on Merchant's Row pulled the plug on it. Vince 'the saleman / sales manager" appeared to have a fair amount of sponsors dedicated, and revenue generated to that "Thunderstorm" show in which the "Gurus" on Merchant's Row foolishly walked away from the revenues. ???

Like they say, it's great to command the highest rates for your commercial time and actually get it.. If you don't, you can still brag about the high rates and get to hear lots of PSA's for flattulance on your airwaves filling those profit center breaks.. :'(

Perhaps you hadn't noticed Jo Jo, but the morning show WASN'T the Thursday Night Thunderstorm. Not having knowledge of why Vince referred to himself as Vince1, the name seems strange to me. It's like some kind of inside story that none of the audience would understand (except for those in the know). Don't you think it would sound silly if Jackie were calling him DJVince1 when talking to him on the air?

You appear to have an "issue" with most things Pamal. How long have you been on the air? Did you or do you work for them?

Perhaps you hadn't noticed RocketPower (or member of the Gilligan cast) that Vince is KNOWN AS DJVince-1 in the Upper Valley and has been for years. Of course Jackie wouldn't refer to him as DJVince-1...just as Vince wouldn't have referred to Jackie as "Jackie Donovan" every time...

Just another example of Pamal's ongoing effort to clear out their former enemies...despite their talent...looks like they've all but succeeded in that.

Tick Tock...Where's Mr. Marbles? Funny how silent he's been these days...maybe he too is looking for his luggage to pack his raft?

I don't think the "DJ Vince1" thing was an 'inside' thing. Any 97.1 event he ever was a part of for at least the past 8 years or so, he was always introduced or promoted as "DJ Vince 1", there's was no hidden agenda there, it was was it was..

Pamal has been operating in Rutland since or just slightly before the beginning of the decade with the six million dollar purchase of WJJR/WJEN/WJAN. Since then the results and performace speaks for itself.

What is it that you are waiting for JO JO? Do you want to hear me defend Pamal, so you can berate me? Do you want me to tell you how the #1 on the end of Vince's name sounded foolish, so you can scorn me? You see Jo Jo my days of going wit for wit with you are no longer. I am who I am and you, my friend, are who you are. Best of the holiday wishes to you. :)

My apologies there Mr. M, I thought you had already posted up the other day, and it wasn't visible. There will be no alleged scorning or berating as you say, I'd rather keep the conversation on a much smarter level than slinging mud.. I'm sure you are in accord with me in that we both wish Vince good luck in his new endeaver.. Best holiday wishes to you and your family as well.

Well, my students another lesson taught. There's been a change in the agenda...SNOW...by the end of the day I will expect to see a list of who had the best snow storm coverage. ;) Should be interesting, the storm center is calling for a MIXXED bag of precipitation ;)

How many times can a station rattle off the area schools, and say "Meeting XX held in room 222 at 6:00 pm tonight is cancelled"...and "Bessie's Clothing Emporium" is closing early today".. This storm is far from the storm of the century, yet without much prodding the grocery stores were rather busy locally yesterday.. "Buy your bread, your milk, your batteries".. Should be an easy call for most radio groups to handle..

Good to see Mr. Marbles back from the shadow of the Bear! Good to see you Professor...so, what's your take on why the staff at your beloved House seems to be trickling away? Is it you? the Bear? Who will be next?...perhaps your clock is ticking too?

How long until Cool Jazz 97?

Jo Jo, it's not a matter of how many times you say the cancellation, it's a matter of being a community oriented station. I believe most on this board would agree? Dudeman who is this bear you speak of?

Is that community oriented 'station' as in one station, or community oriented as in 'group' as in your 'group' of stations ? ??? And also what impacts the frequency of cancellation announcements is whether those cancellations have a sponsor attached to them.. Money talks, at least in most logical cases..

The Springfield, MA market is fickle about school cancellation sponsors. They are a hard sell, they are not "money in the bank". We all know jo jo that sales people will sell only what is most profitable to them. For example, in my 5 station cluster in Springfield, we have a AC MIXX station, AAA, country and 2 other stations. The clients prefer to advertise on the heritage AC...so it's an easy sell for them. Makes sense doesn't it? give the client what they want. is that not your philosophy? ???

Cancellations should not be a hard sell in "Snowy Springfield".. From what I know of your "Snowy Springfield", the prior sales staff that are not in your present company had no trouble going out and selling those cancellations. It all epends on how it is 'packaged', presented, and what the market conditions will 'bear'.. If management declares the cancellations are worth a high price, and the no one's biting, it's a waste to hear those 'flatulance' PSA's in an unsold break.. After all PSA's like that make the station sound 'hollow', and I'm sure Mr. Marbles you wouldn;t want to hear those playing on your 'heritage AC' in "Snowy Springfield" because no one's buying..

Here's an interesting footnote that might help the conversation... A station I used to work for used to bonus the hell out of clients for a potential "WIN-WIN" situation. The station won cause it filled mandatory avails, and managed to avoid the aforementioned "hollow sound". The client won because they got more bang for their buck. More ads equal better saturation, and more folks responding to their ad.
