Another question about YouSendIt

When uploading the a file on the YSI page, it says not to navigate away from the page. Can you minimize it and go on about your business doing other stuff on the internet? I've been afraid to do anything at all while files upload due to how long it takes and not wanting to start over. On the other hand, once I have a file downloading from a link, I have gone on to other stuff with out problems.

Yes Mike. You can minimize it. It sometimes fails on me for no particular reason - like 5 minutes ago to Frank, but if you navigate that browser window to something else, it will fail in that second. The browser window needs to remain on that page - minimized or not.

Just how long does it take? I know it will depend on your internet (will do it from work, so LAN), but hopefully no more than :45-an hour???

I think it depends on how big the file is. Everything I've sent has taken an hour at the least.

Yes, it's ok to minimize, but check on it if you are sending a large file. Sometimes YSI loses the link with the server. I've also used www.sendthisfile.com which requires registration but is free. It's a great back up. Frank used www.megafileupload.com, but it is very slow. The first time I tried to download something, it would have taken 10 hours. I finally got it after several attempts down to 2 hours.

If you want to keep surfing, just open another window or four. This is definately the way to trade these days!<P ID="signature">______________

It takes about an hour for me too, that's for mp3's with a moderate bit rate and length. If I send a really large file I usually started it when I went to bed, but now that I know for sure I can just minimize the screen, and do other stuff, I won't worry about it.

I sent a file of about 77 min. recorded as a .wav file rather than mp3 and it took 10 hours to upload.
