Another reason to NEVER work for Cumulus!!!!

Too bad Jan Jeffries isn't savvy enough to realize Scott Gaines can do just about any format. How un-professional of Cumulus to bring Scott in and then fire him just months into his tenure. Jan Jeffries and Cumulus=Losers

If you're smart you will stay away from CUME-LESS

I don't know Scott, and I don't mean to sound disrepectful, but why is it Jan Jefferies' fault? Shouldn't Scott have known better for boarding a sinking ship? Also, Alexis got the axe too, after she stuck with them throughout all of the changes, downsizing, etc. I feel worse for her than him. But blowing out the whole staff for a format change is part of the biz, right?

How was Scott supposed to know it was a sinking ship? Does he have a crystal ball? It was a new format, he probably thought this one would work. I partially agree with you. Knowing Cumulus's record Scott should have known better and yes getting blown out is part of the business, but not as much as being a unprofessional jerk like Jan Jefferies. I know. I worked with him TWICE.

Poor little Jan i'm sure he thinks (with his huge ego) The Wolf in Dallas is ALL HIS DOING. Not true. If KSCS were a good station again Jan's Wolf would be 2nd.

Jan is a very LUCKY man.

Jan is a very TALENTED man....I've worked him twice as well. All I've ever seen him do is create the best sounding radio stations in any market he's in.

For example, 94Q in Atlanta was a programming, artistic, and aesthetic masterpiece. (But was destroyed by weak management, and the sales department.)

The reclamation of The Wolf speaks for itself, and frankly, to say that success is because of KSCS' incompetence, as opposed to hard-nosed teamwork by Jan, Mark, and killer On-Air performance by the most talented Airstaff in town is an undeserved slam on everyone there.

Not cool, Boss.

Has Jan made hard calls? Yes. Has he made enemies? Certainly....Anyone in Radio for well over a Century has.

(Heh-heh)

Truth Spoken Here...Jan's resume of Radio Programming Success speaks for itself.

Sounds like JD is jockeying for a gig at the all new i93.3!!!

J-D is 51 year old radio fossil with absolutely nothing to offer a 6-24 year-old audience....

(....Oh sure, I could do it....but hell, hair-dye...sit-ups....lose 40 MORE pounds....nah...)

No....The T-Rex is extinct!

(....But then again, you sure wouldn't want to see one show up at your cross-town CHR party would ya?....heh-heh.)

CRAP! I even laugh like an old man....IN PRINT, FOR CHRIST'S SAKE!!!....Who the hell am I fooling?!? Nooooo buddy.

(Kinda flattering that someone might think that I could though....still....One more CHR battle....?)

OK, show prep & reality time.....

Take Care, Broadcasters! Have a Great Weekend!!

Excuse me, but you should be so fortunate to make it to be a 51-year-old "fossil" and look here to see that others say that it's you with "absolutely nothing to offer." Period.

You have a bright radio career ahead.

Good luck.

All he'd have to do is look at the numbers. When he took the job, the station had a .8. Now it has a .5. I don't need a crystal ball to predict what's going to happen.

Scott was out of work when he took the gig. If he was smart, he'll continue to get a check for a few more months until he finds his next sinking ship...errr...opportunity.

When you're an ego maniac like Jan Jeffries, and dictate how several dozen (maybe 100+?) stations are run, you're going to have a couple successes here and there. The odds are just in your favor. For the occasional success JJ has, there's far more stations that have suffured from his ego. He'll be the first to tell you that a station's success is his doing, then turn around and fire a PD when a station stumbles because he wasn't "executing the plan properly". Eventhough he was, but Jeffries has a hard time accepting responsibility for failures.

I've seen it from the inside more than twice, and in other markets looking from across the street.

I've only heard of ONE instance were JJ actually apologized to a station's staff because he screwed up.

When the 93 hours are up... I'm thinking "10 songs in a row" will probably be part of the strategy.

Hang on there. 93.3, the frequency, has a nice longevity record for keeping so-so to abysmal formats on the air for YEARS longer than anyone else would have. If I were Scott, I'd looked at Bone/Merge/Zone and said, "WOW! Job stability!! I'll ride that .5 all the way into 2015!!" Again, I still place the blame on the PPM system. I never thought it would have such a quick, dramatic effect on format futures. 0.8 to a 0.5? Still outpaces much of the Bone's numbers over the years. I remember that one month 4 years ago or so where KDBN earned a 0.0 in the 12+ Trends. I don't think even the former 93.3 inhabitant, St. Marks School (KRSM,) ever had a 0.0!!

I mentioned earlier about Scott Gaines' jocking flexibility. Ya know, he jocked the same format, and had a respectable following, on Wild 100.3. So, what, does he have bad breath? There won't be any holdover audience from Quantity Rock whatsoever, so who's to know that a capable staffer was held over into the new format? Hell, Alexis moved with Bone over to Quantity Rock with no HR issues. (Gone now, I know, but still.)

BTW...Jan Jeffries never programmed 94Q

JJ, thats what I call him, used to always tell us in our staff meetings how he would kill KISS FM if he only had a Top 40 here in town. Well, he got it. Lets see if he's as good as he says.

I think the positioner should be, " Playing The Most Continuous Hit Music With 10 Songs In A Row and Over 62 Minutes of Music Every Hour- The New I93.....Ohhh Ohhh.. BINGO!"

Boss....Jan hired me for Mid-Days after I left Power 96 in Detroit. He then promoted me to PM Drive, replacing Ken Cooper. I was the last PM Drive Jock on 94Q.

Z-93 wasn't a factor at the time...The CHR that beat us was Power 99, not because we sounded worse, but because upper management was being run over by Mark Kanov in Sales. Sales wanted an adult station to compete with B98.5; which was a monster at the time.

They got Jan fired, hired Bill Cahill, changed the station to Star 94 and expanded Jazz Flavors to nights M-F. When I left the station was in complete chaos, and in the dumper to boot. It would take years, 2 more PD's, several years, and Steve McCoy to beat the last numbers we left at 94Q.

I don't know your history with Jan, but when I talk about him, at least what I relate are facts, not rumor. (Seriously....What are you even thinking when you say Jan never programmed 94Q? I was there, man....Jeeze!)

Jake's got it right....Let's see if Jan, and PD John Fox can guide i-93 to the Winner's Circle. If they do, you will apologize, right?

Wish we still had Steve McCoy in Dallas. He left Atlanta to come here, got afternoons at KVIL, was looking like he was being groomed as Chapman's heir-apparent, then decided a year or so later to go back to Atlanta. That was 1989-90. Chapman brought back Cat Simon thereafter. In this fickle-@ss town, however, McCoy, had he stayed, would probably be doing overnights at Platinum nowadays and glad he had the job. Our loss was definitely HIS gain.
