Another rimshot signal gets better

Une INSULTE! Comment le défi ils emportent l'assurance de signal par radio de CBUF! Montréal entendra parler de ceci!

(TRANSLATION: An INSULT! How dare they take away CBUF radio signal coverage! Montreal will hear of this!)

LOL!  I'd think of it as getting back at them, for taking the 104.1 allotment for themselves and depriving KMCQ of their planned move to Cougar Mountain.

KFMY (97.7 The Eagle) has a format that is similar to that of KJR-FMs, minus any of the 90s stuff, which may draw some listeners away from 95.7 with the improved signal, but probably only as much as KNBQ maybe took listeners away from KMPS and KKWF (The Wolf), which is not very much.  Too bad Norm Gregory left 97.7 a few years ago.  I think I read somwhere that a couple of DJ's on 97.7 actually came over from former sister station 99.3 KAYO (now Bustos-owned KDDS).

A little bit of history.  Another sister station of theirs, KSWW, used to simulcast KFMY for the Aberdeen/Hoquiam area, before KSWW took KFMY's format, split off, and became it's own station, which is now Sunny 102.1.

Although I haven't seen any indications of it, I believe sometime in the future more than likely with the way the industry is these days, KSWW could follow the lead and eventually join KFMY and KDDS up at South Mountain, in order to get into Seattle and still reach into the Grays Harbor at the same time, although they would of course have to protect KPLZ and KZOK in Seattle, and KPQ in Wenatchee (although the Cascades do a bang up job of that already, but the FCC never takes terrain into account).  But then of course that would take away some of KPQ's signal that miraculously reaches some spotty places here in the Puget Sound, thanks to their high elevation-located transmitter on Mission Ridge.

KFMY original call letters were KSWW. KSWW original call letters were KAPV. KJET original call letters before launch were KFMY. 97.7 and 102.1 were never sister stations. Jodesha owned 97.7. Greg Smith owned 102.1. Ownership swapped, Jodesha got 102.1, South Sound (which had KAYO) got 97.7.

You are correct that there was a simulcast. 97.7 and 102.1 simulcast for some time after the 102.1 launch. And the simulcast was first from studios in Raymond, then from studios in Aberdeen.

Norm Gregory's show on KFMY 97.7 was voice-tracked. The newsman on KFMY used to be in Olympia and did news for KAYO also. He now lives near Seattle and still does news on KFMY via the magic of voice-tracking.

KSWW 102.1 / KJET 105.7 / KBKW AM /and KANY 93.7 (not on air, target date just days away) are operated out of studios in Aberdeen and owned by Jodesha.

KSWW KJET and KANY are all second-adjacent to Seattle stations.

You folks may want to listen to Bill. I suspect he has his facts right, given that he is the owner of Jodesha Broadcasting. The name is based on his kid's names, I believe.

Bill represents exactly what all of us around here are always holding up as the ideal in broadcasting...the local owner who give a damn about his market and is not trying to rimshot into the big city. Pretty rare these days. Give him some woot woot props!

I have never met Bill in spite of the fact that I am on the air in his market every day...talk about the magic that is voicetracking! :p Hi Bill...you know me as Chico. Now my cover is blown.

But I still wouldn't waste my time with upgrading to a near Seattle level signal with 97.7. The great beauty of local radio is that it's LOCAL and aside from a computer can't be heard anywhere else. I don't see the need for jacking up the COL or power or transmitter locale all the way from from Raymond, Aberdeen, Elma or wherever to barely hit Seattle when it's not going to make much of a sonic impact in Seattle proper, to say nothing of Everett.....

If you want to listen to Radio-Canada, the first channel. You need to listen to on the internet. you type www.radio-canada.com and click region and click on Columbie-Britannique for you to listen to Radio-Canada. I hope KFMY 97.7 will serve the Seattle Metro area. Poor Larry. It is good for us.

C'est bien. J'habite dans Bellingham, ainsi je ne serai pas affecté par le mouvement de KFMY.

That's alright. I live in Bellingham, so I will not be affected by the KFMY move.

In the future, I need to ask that users post in English. Although we are devoted to all things radio, our user base is overwhelmingly comprised of English speakers. Posting in other languages tends to leave people out of discussions rather than include them.
