ANOTHER SAD DAY

So long, Clear Channel traffic reporters Dave Andrews, Chris Garrett, and Seth Charles.

I can only say how sad I am about this. When I was axed by this same company, it was Dave Andrews who jumped at the chance to bring me back as a part-timer, and gave me every possible available shift. We've all been there - when you're FIRED, you feel unwanted by the whole world. And when someone else gives you a shot, it's like being born in the biz again.

Besides knowing every street, road, dirt path, pothole, sewer drain, traffic signal, and landmark in the Harrisburg area, Dave's a damn fine human being. Thoughtful and generous, soft-spoken and knowledgeable (about an almost insane number of topics), he always put his department above his own career aspirations. If only more were so inclined.

Chris Garrett hungered for the microphone from an early age. His father was a radio broadcaster in Washington, D.C., and Chris wanted nothing more than to walk in Dad's footsteps and keep the legacy going. A gifted live deejay and a talented musician, arranger, and performer, music and rhythm flows through his veins. And the man is an absolute show-stopper when singing live. Chris and I became fast friends, improvising comedy routines off-mic that we still laugh at today.

Seth Charles is best known for his work on WHTM ABC 27, as an afternoon-drive traffic reporter. Unflappable delivery, and a level of polish that will surprise you at first. Seth is also one of the funniest human beings I've ever worked with. I recall a thousand days I was in the traffic studio, Seth was in our vehicle out in the mess, and I'd be howling at how this fairly unassuming dude would rail on the "idiots" and "numbnuts" on the Beltway.

Gentlemen, stay strong. May you be re-born in the biz again very soon, and appreciated for your talents. It's a sad ****ing day.

A sad day indeed. I worked with Dave during his Kommander Kool days. A classy guy who deserves better.

the lehigh valley radio team can't light a torch to the locals here in harrisburg. no offense to the allentown cc gang. we had locals that knew and cared about this market. not your call all corporate is responsible cause terrestrial revenue is way down. best wishes all!

The professionalism and personality is gone. I've heard it for two days now, Lan-caster, Prah-gress avenue, obviously out-sourced. And, may I add, sounds like the delivery of the weather service's 'Perfect Paul". Steve also warned of rain moving through the area this morning and watch the slick roads- we had blue clear skies over Hbg.. (ref. WHP-AM 7:54 break)

Dave Andrews has one of the best deliveries on air. Great sense of urgency - he was obviously dedicated right to the end. Wonder why CC decided to blow out the whole Hbg hub or if any of those folks had a chance to move to Atn or Phl?

Well, I can feel for the Harrisburg radio crew. Cheap Channel decided to again swing it's bloody axe. It was only a little over 2 years ago I was chopped from traffic at WRFY/WRAW. It's the Clear Channel way, cut, cut, cut. Dave Andrews was a great guy, used to share traffic tips back and forth with him all the time. Now Channel 69 does traffic on Y, and well, it's poor at best. Rick Edwards and Jeff Bolden are great guys, not knocking them, but how can you do traffic from 40 miles away? Well, you can, but listeners won't listen for the traffic this is undependable, contrary to what a certain program director thinks! All I can to Dave and the rest of the crew is, life after Clear Channel is WAY better!!!

Metro closed down their Harrisburg office/Traffax some time ago. All Traffax traffic done in Philly now. Expect CC to use that office and staff eventually.

i heard craig " the little kahuna" stevens do a report on wrvv in the 3 o'clock hour and I could have swore he said johnstown rd vs jonestown rd. i hope i am wrong but that one would be a major faux pas coming from the lehigh valley traffic team. please it's pro gress not prah gress as i was corrected big time when i moved to central pa 20 years ago.
