Another "SAM" Flip - in VA

From DCRTV.com:

Sam Arrives In Warrenton - 7/3 - On Saturday, 7/2, WOJL (105.5 FM) in Louisa VA unveiled its new "Sam" format - "Simply About Music." Another one of those Jack-type stations that is trying to mimic "your own personal iPod in shuffle." The locally-owned Piedmont Communications station serves Warrenton, Fredericksburg, and Culpeper.....

--------

Looking at the station's (for entertainment purposes only) coverage map on Radio-Locator.com, claiming outer DC suburb Warrenton may be somewhat of a stretch for this station:

Thanks, OA. I saw it on VARTV yesterday and I was in the process last night of updating VarietyHits.com with the info (when sleep won out over work). It's of course airing WW1's "SAM Radio" satellite-fed format.
______________

I have JACK-FM, Bob FM and SAM in there because they're what I consider to be the big three names that are being marketed to multiple cities. I was starting to get e-mails about who went on the air first with Jack or Bob, and so I put that on there to answer any potential questions out there. The information is available on the site, but the categories puts the info on one easy-to-access page. Plus it helps me in case anyone has a specific question.

As for SAM, since it's a national satellite-fed format with one name, that was an easy choice.

> Also, Emmis has some that go by a different name (Neither Jack nor Bob nor
> Sam) I believe (I'm not an expert about this).

Emmis has the 51-49% split with Sinclair Communications in Bob FM in Austin. I'm not sure of where else the company has utilized the format (and as a former Emmis employee, I keep a close eye on the company and pull for it to do well, as I think highly of it and Jeff Smulyan). Entercom uses the Charlie FM name in Portland, OR and Madison, WI, but I don't believe that constitutes its own category, at least not yet.

Bonneville has some VH stations, but they don't all use one name (i.e. Max FM in San Fran, The Peak in Phoenix, The Arch in St. Louis, etc.) I've contemplated breaking it down by ownership, but for now I'm holding off on that.
______________
