Another Solar flare

Things could get weird during the morning hours....

The models also predict that the leading edge of the first CME will reach Earth at about 1:25 AM EST on the morning of March 8 (plus or minus 7 hours). Such a CME could result in a severe geomagnetic storm, causing aurora at low latitudes, with possible disruption to high frequency radio communication, global positioning systems (GPS), and power grids.

I would think they could get a little closer with there predicted arrival time. + or - 7 hours is a pretty big window.
I would love to see the aurora here in Alabama again. I remember seeing it back in the 1980's.

A Post Office on the Sun will delay the ejection for a few generations.

Two days in a row a bunch of my contract stations reported the AMC-8 satellite getting wiped-out at around 3:45pm CST. It stays out for about 10 mins and then comes back. You suppose it's directly related to this?

No, that is a sun outage, which happens when the sun gets directly behind AMC-8. It's energy wipes out the (weak) transponders. You'll have it for a few more days then it'll be gone until October.
 
I've noticed it on the Cumulus and Premiere XDS receivers mainly. I didn't check the MAX or Wegener receivers, because they weren't on the air at the time.
 
This is sunfade/sunspots. It happens twice a year at the same time. You haven't heard?

Your cumulous receiver should roll over to the internet if you have it configured correct.
 
Yeah, I know about sunspots. It was a face/palm moment when LA_Guy said it. I've just been reading a lot about solar flares and I jumped to conclusions. Nevermind... :-[
 
With that being said, I've been experiencing the solar outage a bit longer than listed by our sat provider by a day or so. I can't help but think that, with that ball of EMP crap headed our way, it probably enhanced the normal sunfade issue when close to being aligned with the sun.
 
MW band was really spotty last night. Normal powerhouses were weak or missing while some Mexicans I hardly ever hear were loud & clear.

As for satellites and sun fade, the Dial Global and MAX all go out way before the Cumulus XDS.
The ABC Starguides never dropped out during sunfades.
 
Man...the AM band was weird last night.
I recorded some of WWV, including the Geophysical forecast, and they were dropping out while they talked about predicted radio dropouts.
Supposed to be worse today.

I used WWV for exact time yesterday so I could set the clocks for DST. Was it just me, or did WWV's 15 MHz feed sound like SSB?? I switched to 20 MHz and it sounded normal. Is WWV experimenting or something?
