Another station ID question (WZLX)

In most of the station's bumpers, they say "100.7 WZLX, Boston's only classic rock." Rarely, if ever, do I hear a simple "WZLX Boston," and if it is said, it's usually not right at the top of the hour. Does saying "WZLX Boston's only classic rock" still entail a proper station ID, since WZLX and Boston are said back to back? Just wondering.

Depends on if the city of license on their license has been changed from
BOSTON to Boston's.

If not, then it's not.

Actually, I believe its legal. Call letters then city, except

-FM if it is assigned as part of the calls
Channel
Frequency
name on the licence

--and--
Additional citys of coverage can be added, as long as they are after the COL
anything can follow the COL (including an 's), just as long as legal things appear between the callsign and COL

So the way I understand it, "WZLX, 264, 100.7, Infinity Broadcasting Corporation of Boston, Boston's Classic Rock..." would be legal, if they wanted to ID like that

Well here is where it is NOT legal.
If they are legal IDing as
WZLX Boston's home for whatever, that is not legal.

The rule states that the city must be given has printed on the license.
A check of the FCC database shows that WZLX is licensed to BOSTON not BOSTON'S.

While it is nitpicking, changing Boston to Boston's is not following the letter of the rule.

zlx does have legal id's, just listen closer, you'll hear them

Yeah, maybe once every four hours you'll hear a straight "WZLX Boston." But more times than not, you hear "WZLX Boston's Only Classic Rock."

Absolutely. As long as there are call letters followed directly by city of license, it is legal. It doesn't matter what is before or after... Granted, it may be "buried" in the middle, but it is still a legal ID. Case closed.

That's exactly right. This same thing has been done for many years in many different markets.
