Another station is signing off: WKDH-DT/Tupelo-Columbus

I guess they figure that the costs they save by shutting the station down now would exceed any incentive they might get from the FCC for agreeing to channel share with WTVA and releasing the frequency held by WKDH. Waiting for the FCC would have guaranteed them "must carry" for their ABC programming, but in reality, no cable or satellite company is going to refuse to carry the ABC station just because it's not on the primary subchannel.

That, or they'll keep the license alive by signing it on for a few days each year until auctions can begin.

Wasn't the programming on WKDH supplied by WTVA through an LMA? If that's the case, is 9.2 essentially going to be the WKDH programming, just with different branding?

If ABC goes to 9.2, what is going to happen with Me-TV, which is there now? Will they hopefully add another subchannel? I just hope they don't go to running it the same sorry way WBBJ in Jackson, TN does of just using it for filler, or dropping it completely.

Really, how much value is there likely to be coming from those incentive auctions in a market the size of Tupelo-Columbus?

If they get one dollar, it's one dollar they didn't have before -- and they lose the expense of operating the channel 45 transmitter. They may well be happy not getting anything at all in the incentive auction, as long as it's a way to get two must-carry slots without having to pay for two transmitters.
