Another sucky game on ESPN's MNF This week...

Pits The St. Louis Rams(2-10) vs The Seattle Seahawks (5-7)over at CenturyLink Field in Seattle. You thought The Chargers win over The Jaguars was very important? Well that game totally sucked because The Jags have fired head coach Jack Del Rio, and it is in the process of being sold. The Jags or Chargers may be going to L.A. very soon. I might have a strong hunch that ESPN might be luring a showdown with teams that does have a strong implications-just like it has with NBC with flexible scheduling during the 2nd half of The NFL season. Like for instance, Espn may replace The Rams-Seahawks with The Raiders-Packers in Green Bay.

MNF isn't the marquee game that it was on ABC back in the day. When the TV contracts were redesigned a couple years ago, the premiere game went to Sunday, along with the change of broadcast network. There are tons of garbage games every week this year, and as the rules are written the networks can protect one game a week, unfortunately for the NFL/NBC, Fox & CBS are protecting that one good matchup they have a week, as anyone would if they were running those networks.

... and as a result of the new deal, ESPN cannot command that Monday night games be "flexed out", which is easier to do with games played on Sundays.

Remember the year ESPN scheduled three games with the Cleveland Browns on MNF? All three of the games (as did the team) turned out to be stinkers (I believe the Browns were 14-2 the previous season, thus warranting the number of Browns games that ended up on MNF).

Apparently, The Colts(0-12) just have only 1 prime time game this season against the Texans in Indy on 12/22. They have not done well without Payton, and The Texans are looking so very hot this year, despite several players getting all banged up, especially with The QBs.

Based on yesterdays no-flex decision it appears CBS was allowed to protect 2 games in week 17.
NBC should be quite angry.

I'm a big football fan but I hate MNF. Here on the east coast the games start way too late. Unless you're an insomniac you won't be awake for the end of the game. It's pretty ridiculous when the game is still in the 3rd quarter at 11pm.

So CBS keeps Broncos/Patriots AND gets to keep two games of its choice in the final week of the regular season? The latter should be consolation if NBC got the Broncos/Patriots game!

The Browns were actually 10-6 in 2007 (one of two winning seasons since returning back into the NFL fold in '99), and a lot of people at least picked them to win the AFC North. Their opening weekend game in '08 featured them and the Cowboys as Fox's featured late game (we got that game here in L.A. instead of the more competitive Panthers-Chargers game), and Dallas ran Cleveland right off the field. The Browns finished 4-12 in '08.
