I noticed this in passing, and it may not be a permanent feature of WWZN-AM 1510's programming, but it appears that this afternoon, between 2:00 and 3:00 pm, they carried a finance-type "informercial" promoting the purchase of gold as a hedge against a market downfall. It wasn't just a spot commercial, as it went on for several minutes as I was driving. Just another step in AM 1510's metamorphosis into a slimy "informercial" outlet?

as far as I can tell, during the day, they have Lew and Mike 7-9, an informercial 9-10, Tony Bruno 10-12... then there's a local show, "Touching The Bases," 12-2... I don't listen much after that. It's kind of a shame that they peg themselves as "Boston's Sports Station" with the non-brokered sports programming. As long as they keep sports in morning drive, that's cool--it's still miles better than D&C

Was the gold broker's name Jim Cedarstrom? If so, the program's name is "Money Talks", and is produced by Christian Media Network.

"Money Talks", (and other programming from Christian Media Network) can be heard in the region (and beyond) over Monticello Maine's WBCQ Shortwave, at 7.415 MHz.

Does anyone still isten to shortwave? I used to, but found most of what I listened for can be had on the 'net, and it sounded better too.

Cedarstrom is one interesting character. I thought he was relegated to Phoenix.

Jim Cedarstrom's "Money Talks" program does indeed originate from Scottsdale, Arizona, and is apparently literally "phoned-in" over a conventional land line to WBCQ 7.415, which in turn, broadcasts the program to approximately half the contininet.

Same arrangement for James Lloyd's underground take on Bible prophesy "The Apocolypse Chronicles", which originates from Oregon, and any other offerings from Christian Media Network.

I was wondering if there are any shortwave stations broadcasting in HD digital yet?

Quite a few European national broadcasters are doing test broadcasts in Digital Radio Mondiale (the European digital transmission designed and developed specifically for the frequencies below 30 MHz.

Radio Canada International is also doing test broadcasts out of Sackville New Brunswick. I forget the exact frequency, but it's in the neighborhood of 9.8 MHz.

I'm sure more info is available on the net about times and freqeuncies of the test broadcasts.

According to a banner on their website, WNSH (1570) is now airing the Capital Gold Group program "Safe as Gold" from 3:00-3:30PM on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.

I was just going to mention the Capital Gold show. I, too, saw that on WNSH's site today. They don't pay that much but do a halfway decent show.

Someone ought to buy or at least lease WNSH. It is far underperforming what it should be doing. Just don't try and call the ownership; they don't seem to be too on top of things.

I don't know if WNSH needs to be sold. Mr. Willcox has worked hard over the last several years to improve the signal and sound quality. Even before the station hit its rough patch in the early 1990s, the signal was never great south of Salem. Now it comes loud and clear throughout the North Shore during daytime hours. That said, it'd be great to see 'NSH add more local content, particularly in the morning.

With the WESX flip to brokered, WLYN long removed from providing local service, and WBOQ not living up to its potential in terms of offering North Shore based coverage, WNSH has a real opportunity to build an audience in that part of the market.

The greatest aspect of the WCAP sale to Smidt and Poulten is a renewed commitment to live and local coverage. I hope for their success because it may spur a revival in local radio for suburban Boston. So far, I think they are doing pretty well. Love the Anthes show on weekday evenings as well as "The Beatles and Before". WNSH would do well to follow their lead.
