I used to come to Noo York during the heydays of WABC and WMCA. I remember WNEW AM and all had jocks who really sounded like Noo York in their voice and delivery. Nobody could have been better than Dan Ingram and Cousin Brucie. I remember when ABC objected to Brucie's use of calling the audience "Cuzzins". Brucie answered something like New Yorkers are the corniest people in the world.
Just as real jazz, swing, and big bands have found homes on public radio, maybe thats the place where oldies will finally wind up. Cousin Brucie on NPR or Pacifica is not such a strange concept anymore. Where is bluegrass? On country stations? Not a chance. Its on NPR and Pacifica. Here in Tampa, WMNF plays Bluegrass, raggea , jazz, and oldies. You can count on knowing that when a format is considered too out of it for FM, public radio finds a place for it.
