Okay, gotta admit I didn't see this one coming! Two CHRs for Chattanooga, wow. They finally put Kiss on a good signal (103.7 FM has 25,000 watts versus the previous one for Kiss that only had one or two thousand).
I think 96.5 The Mountain has been doing a great job executing a CHR/Pop format though it's a shame they don't stream.
They're rolling out with 20,000 songs in a row and the tagline hit music now (similar to 105.7 Hit Music Now Greensboro). The music mix seems to include all the hits.
The website should be up and running soon http://kisschattanooga.com/
Leaning somewhat rhythmic at the moment, hopefully they get rid of some of the stiffs (namely "Turn My Swag On" and "You're A Jerk"). What else... they're staking a more-music position relative to WDOD, the pitched-up music sounds great, and it sounds like someone actually put some effort into the imaging. Thumbs up for all of the above.
The Mountain seems far more broad-based than their new rival...and they occasionally throw caution to the wind with respect to new music or golds that may or may not belong. Part of me thinks it gives them character, but part of me thinks that's dangerous with competition. I've never understood why they don't turn their powers over more often. If Kiss tightens the screws, there might be room for them when all is said and done. It'll be interesting to watch.
So let me get this right.... radio deregulation ws supposed to bring more diversity to the airwaves, and yet, in a market where Clear Channel had DITCHED that market's CHR fanbase, they return with a CHR that will compete with a station that airs two of their own syndicated properties?
This industry's being killed by the corporate suits that own most of it.
