Another Top 40 casualty: KHTE/Little Rock

This is sad. KHTE was better as a Rhythmic, but at this rate it'll be interesting to see who can challenge KLAL down the road.

I was listening to it last night and it was playing rhythmic hits and was sounding pretty good. When did they evolve back to Rhythmic. I think they never should have left that format at they were quite competitive as a Rhythmic a few years ago. They thenm went from 90's, to an extremely recurrent Mainstream CHR. Most recently it went from a pure pop CHR with more variety than the Cumulus version of KLAL to a return to Rhythmic CHR. When Ugly Ed Johnson came from KLAL to become the PD about a year ago, it seemed like the station began to find it's focus again, but it was woefully understaffed. I think KHTE could have been more sucessful if Crain was willing to put some resources into it.

Clear Channel may be the only owner in Little Rock with the resources to challenge KLAL.

Yeah, but they failed with the former Q100. Not saying they can't try it again, but they need to put a better effort behind it.

This sucks for Little Rock.

KLAL used to be a great CHR under Citadel but they sound like a poorly programmed Hot AC under Cumulus, just like most Cumulus CHRs do.  Little Rock is now basically without a CHR station.

I agree KHTE was better as rhythmic, though it was very urban leaning until the very end.  I really liked their sound in 2009 when they started adding in EDM in addition to their usual hip-hop and R&B.

How is KIPR under Cumulus?  Have they gone gold-leaning as well since the takeover?

Does ClearChannel have any stations in Little Rock?  Any chance any of them could flip to CHR? It seems like Little Rock has long been a tough market for mainstream CHR. Most successful stations have either gone rhythmic or rock-leaning.

THIS. You can tell a difference in the playlist of Alice 107.7 from 2011/early 2012 and late 2012.

I don't listen to Power 92 much or claim to be an expert of Urban programming, but I have heard from others than Cumulus Urbans are also very conservative, much like their CHRs.
