Another Top 40 casualty: KQMQ/Honolulu!

As of 6PM Hawaii Time (February 4th, 2011), The Zone dropped the Top 40/CHR format and is stunting with Bob Marley music. Stay tuned...

This may be a stunt, but if it isn't then watch for one (if not two) of the Rhythmics in the market to more more towards CHR/Pop, similar in sound to the big city CHRs in in Cali.
KQMQ's problem in recent years were that it leaned a bit too Adult at times, and avoided playing some of the biggest Rhythmic hits that a CHR/Pop station, especially out in Honolulu, should be playing regardless of how many Rhythmics there are in the market.

It looks like KWIN isn't the only Rhythmic in California thats heading towards the CHR route. KHHM/Sacramento, whose ratings haven't been that "Hot" since they blew up "The Bomb," have started added Taylor Swift, The Script, Avril Lavigne, Miranda Cosgrove and Neon Trees to their playlist too.

Whose gonna pick up the format? and how bad are they in the ratings that they flipped?

I don't see anyone in Honolulu picking up the Top 40/CHR mantle. Besides, KDDB and KPHW are already broad-based Rhythmic Top 40s and does well in the ratings. As for KQMQ, they always been last in the ratings in the seven years they spent in the format. The Fall 2010 Arbitron book saw them placed 13th with a 2.9.

This market is more into Hawaiian, AC, Rhythmic Top 40 and Rhythmic AC music than Top 40/CHR so this tells you something about Honolulu.

Whoops, for a minute there I forgot that KIKI is no longer Rhythmic CHR, and but rather 90s Rhythmic

hi CHRles, long time no talk to... hope all is well with you
KIKI is now KJMZ - 93.9 Jamz.
93.9 Jamz isn't just a 90s rhythmic. They call themselves "Old Skool for Your Generation" with music spanning over two different generations.
I'd say the music is about 40% 80's rhythmic, 40% 90s rhythmic and 20% late 70's and currents.
They kind of fall into a class of their own playing rhythmic music from "Let's Groove" Earth Wind & Fire to "Let's Get Married" by Jagged Edge.

They are positioned perfectly to perform well 25-54 over the next few years. Hopefully it works. They sound good.
