Another translator for WAKY ?

How many translators do they need?
I wish Espn 680 could get a translator to cover Louisville better, 105.7 only covers the eastern part of the city

From the contour maps, they are asking for two 92.3 MHz translators right down I-65.... Personally, I think their 103.5 frequency is pretty good in that area especially as you go south.
In fact the BLFT-20151221CIK application coordinates is the 103.5 transmitter site!!! I found the 103.5 coordinates on radiolocator.net

Could they be replacing 103.5 with 92.3 and 103.5 be up for sale?

It does appear that they may be building a series of translators for 620 AM that totally overlap the current 103.5 service area. Aren't they also getting involved in a translator in eastern Jefferson County? If not a sale of 103.5, possibly a new format? Move 105.5 programming to 103.5 and sell off 105.5? It will be interesting to watch over the next year.

Pretty sure they can't do that. A translator for an AM station can't put a reliable signal more than 25 miles from the AM's transmitter by statute. They could use an FM translator to relay the other FM translator to get around that. I'm not an engineer, but I'd think it would be impossible for a translator to relay a station on the same frequency. Since the second translator would have to relay the first off-air, it seems to me that it would stomp all over the signal it was trying to relay at the transmitter site. I know there are ways to null out signals, but I can't imagine being able to null out a signal at the transmitter site, and nulling out the signal you're trying to relay would defeat the purpose. Plus, I'm not sure that the same operator can own both translators unless the translators are non-commercial.

I don't see a sale of either of the full-power signals happening. However, I seem to remember hearing WAKY has been running HD Radio for quite some time but never had a multicast channel. Maybe they're finally going to do something with a potential extra channel?

I forgot that they also recently purchased a translator from WLOU at 104.9 located in Middletown.

They usually have dead air on 100.1 and 620 during UK games but today they are running religious programming...interesting to see if WAKY will be back in after the game
