Another unusual Adult Standards station is streaming

KTEA FM 103.5 in Cambria, California, is streaming. They really play the big band favorites. It's certainly not watered down like Dial Global.

Thanks for posting the link. It sounds great! I love the big band music, I wish more adult standards stations would put more of it in "the mix", even if it's only one or two songs per hour. It's hard to believe that big band music can be found anywhere on broadcast radio these days.

We are an over the air FM station and we still run Big Band two or three times per hour. I don’t think it is that unusual. There is an AM station in the Dallas suburbs that plays Big Band almost exclusively. http://www.kpyk.com/ As far as I know, they don’t stream.

Admittedly, we play a "greatest hits" version, but Artie Shaw, Count Basie, The Dorsey Brothers, Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, and a lot of others are not strangers. In fact, when the station first signed on it was primarily Big Band. Our listeners told us they wanted a wider variety, so that is what we gave them. Personally, I really enjoyed the journey back in time. www.kzqx.com

That's funny you mention that station -- this past week Mrs SuperRadioFan and I were spending four nights on Moonstone Beach in Cambria. In town, KTEA seemed to be playing in many of the gift shops and antique shops there.

This is a curious station. The guy runs it out of his house. Only one other employee besides himself and a few interns from Cal Poly.

I was in Cambria four months ago and checked out the radio landscape. He has virtually no competition except from a recently erected translator owned by Public Radio KCBX. The other FM stations come in poorly because of the mountainous terrain of the area.

So it's one of those unique situations where a guy, with an FCC license, can basically play his entire record collection, his way.

I understand that for most, broadcasting is merely a business. I have no problem with that, but every now and then, it's nice to see somebody who does "radio" out of passion instead of simply monetary return.

More power to the guy!
