Another waiver for cross-ownership of Hartford Courant, WTIC-TV and WCCT-TV

I think they have a valid point here. The other duopoly in the market is WTNH-TV/WCTX-TV in New Haven. Does LIN Broadcasting, Inc. own or operate the New Haven Register? No. Why should Tribune be granted yet another waiver? It isn't right.

The whole point of a waiver is you have to PROVE that the need exists. Tribune has never really done that. Even in Chicago, there is no reason to give a waiver.

You cannot take the position to give unless there's reason not to.

That makes no sense. A waiver means a "bending of the rule." If you were to take the stand, no reason NOT to give the waiver, then the rule shouldn't exist, and that should be your argument.

The FCC's current view is exactly that...the rule should not exist. They are currently discussing its elimination. This is a decision for which there is bi-partisan agreement. The Republicans tried to eliminate it ten years ago, and now the Democrats are pushing for it.

Tribune is coming out of bankruptcy, and needs the waiver to complete the process. The FCC agrees.
