Another Way To Make Millions In Radio

Go around buying mom and pop radio stations.
Offer them big money.
Then beat them out of some of it.
Do it several times.
Now you are a multimillionaire.
I won't mention the names of the men who have become rich this way.
And, I'm not going to love them or sing their praises either.

"Go around buying stations"

Sounds good.

It reminds me of the old Steve Martin bit:
"You can be a MILLIONaire and never have to pay taxes. First, get a million dollars".

I'll stop by on the way from work tomorrow and buy a station and get started on that.

Just the facts! Compiled from stories by numerous former mom and pop radio
radio station owners in our state and country.
Not talking about me. I am not stupid enough to fall for one of the oldest
tricks in the book.
And, I certainly would not be speaking of the self proclaimed hero and
savior of radio.
By the way, my name is Bruce Quinn. More to come.

So let's pose the question...

Is there any way to reverse the trend? Meaning "mom and pop" own stations again and make radio what it was ORIGINALLY meant to be... a LOCAL media outlet.

Not Howard, or Bob and Tom, or whoever boring us with sexual innuendo over and over. Give me the jock who can tell me the latest news, weather and sports, and then tell me that Frigid Pink also charted with their version of "House of the Rising Sun" and then miraculously segue that conversation into a local retailer's copy!

...or do I need to wake the *&^% up?

Or, as Bruce has done, you can throw a cheap signal on the air and sell it to a corporation and become a millionaire THAT way.......

I liked Frijid Pink's (yes, they spelled it with a "j") version of House Of The Rising Sun much better than the Animals' version.
I talked my brother into buying the album; big mistake as the rest of the album wasn't good at all.

Step... you're right! After I saw the spelling "Frijid" I knew you had me!

Tired Dog... I never said "mom and pop" got screwed. 20 million is 20 million whether you live in LA or Kendalville. My question is if there could be new mom and pops.

Laff... I don't care if 1979 called... it's my dream and they can't have it! Now, where's that cute rock radio groupie.

Nothing real new. Quinn has a 30 year history of complaining that
the FCC only allows radio for the rich.
Here's some quotes from a FCC rulemaking he filed:

"MORE AND MORE BROADCAST RADIO STATIONS IN OUR COUNTRY ARE FALLING INTO THE HANDS OF A FEW RICH MEN. AVERAGE AMERICANS AND MINORITIES ARE FINDING THEMSELVES WITHOUT A LEGAL MEANS TO TRANSMIT THEIR IDEAS BY RADIO.

THEREFORE IT IS NECESSARY FOR OUR GOVERNMENT TO OPEN NEW CHANNELS SO THAT DIVERSITY CAN BE HEARD"

I'm not talking about history. Something is going down right now.
Anyone with info? The Newspaper as well as this company is
investigating the rumors.

How about Portland and Berne? Is Rob Weaver still the "chief cook and bottle washer" of those stations?

Yes, Rob is still there, and from what I know is still part GM, PD, SM, Engineer, etc. Last time I saw him he was setting up to broadcast a ball game!

I don't know the man you're talking about but I bet he's having fun!
