I notice on some recent commercials for WGN AMERICA that they have intro'd what could be ANOTHER new logo if this is so , it would be the THIRD logo for the former SUPERSTATION WGN, since the "eyes" logo in 2008

I forget where I read this, but for at least *one* of the former logos, the complaint was that people would see it in public places, but then forget later if it was an ad for a radio or tv station.

Places like Buffalo NY, for example, where people will see the logo, but think later ( ??? somehow) to tune into WGR Sports radio for something different instead.

No idea why all the other logo changes were needed though.

ANOTHER new logo? Gee, I guess because the second one wasn't getting the job done.

You can see the new logo on the banner ad for WWE Superstars on WGN America's website.

Apparently, the new logo will debut on April 15th, from what I can tell.

According to Tribune Company Chief Innovation Office Lee Abrams, WGN is now known as WGN America because...

""WHY 'AMERICA'? Because there's more to life than Hollywood and Manhattan," Abrams writes. "The channel will speak to Middle America. TV for the average person living in the average community. Interesting and exciting, but on Middle America terms."

He describes the programming as "diverse as America itself."

"From Wrestling to Star Trek to the Beverly Hillbillies," Abrams writes. "All over the road...and proud of it!"

http://blogs.browardpalmbeach.com/pulp/2009/03/lee_abrams_defines_america.php

And then he got really surreal with this whole piece. I mean, *REALLY* surreal.

Was any of that even decipherable?

The "other WGN" is changing their logo ( and name ) as well this week...Denver's KWGN channel 2. Rather than being known as "Two" and that didn't last long either...now KWGN is branding/calling themselves as "The Deuce". Still affilated with CW but KWGN...whoops...THE DEUCE will be moving their 9pm newscast to 7..mountain time of course

That Chief Innovation Officer was high...high on desperation!

Tribune is a goner. Just sell everything off while you can (oh wait...bad economy. No one is buying).

That new WGN America logo has a retro look...which could mean an attempt to refocus on classic TV shows.

As for KWGN...they will get a nice C&D letter, as Disney loves to sue anyone who gets in the way of them making money. The news move to 7 PM appears to be as a result of the LMA with KDVR (Fox).

I wanted to roll over laughing reading that CW execs from LA were involved. Clear lie. It was either "KWGN moves everything ahead an hour or we will drop the CW and deny your programming to Denver viewers". There is a lot of bad blood between Tribune and the CW, 100% of it caused by Tribune and their dislike of paying for CW programming (read...Sam Zell's fault). There is a lawsuit pending over KSWB/San Diego's move to Fox.

As for KWGNs new name, I dont think Disney will send a C&D letter since ESPN2 dropped the nickname "The Deuce" when they decided to just use the ESPN2/ESPN name to be more "corporate"...lol

So, does this mean that Sam Zell dropped a deuce on Denver?!? ;D (sorry, couldn't resist)

Glad that WGN America came to their senses and got a new logo. The one with the eyes was just plain creepy!

That and the fact that it is clear that KWGN..( did it AGAIN..UGH )...THE DEUCE is doing a newscast that attracts the younger demo ( 20's ) and by doing the "news" at 7 would mean a bigger audience for that crowd before they go out and hit the bars. I say "news" because according to some of my firends who watched the debut of The Deuce's 7pm..whatever it is, the set includes a stage for rock bands to perform during the news and the "internet cafe" where some young girl goes online during the news. All of this reminds me of a rumor I heard earlier this year when I was in Fort Collins ( which I might add..from a rather large number of people in and outside of Colorado ) that one of the Denver TV stations (at time I heard it KMGH, others said it was "KCNC ) was seriously considering hiring a certain actor of adult films who was/is living in Denver to anchor the local news. Only one name popped up in these rumors and I would mention the name of the actor on here but I doubt the censors of this site would allow it.Hint..it was not Ron Jeremy !!!!

Anyway of course that never happened besides if it did ( the hiring of a porn actor to anchor ) I am sure it would be all over this site. Anyway I have to wonder if the station who was interested was...KWGN?

Maybe KISS might sue them? :D

How is that logo any different from what they have now?

I thought the difference was a small A instead of a big one for "america" but I could be wrong...

Well, WGN America has completely rebranded.

FWIW, that new logo was the one I was speaking about in my previous post.

One thing that jumped out at me...The Cubs/White Sox games are branded as "National League" and "American League" games. They're distancing themselves even further from their Chicago identity.

Yep, thus the rebrand. They want to be an all-inclusive superstation.

If they want to be all-inclusive...why continue WGN News? As long as the Cubs/White Sox/Bulls coverage and WGN News continue...they will be just an extension of the local WGN-TV Chicago. To be all-inclusive, all Chicago-centered sports and news has to go.

And with those shows would go the very things that have made WGN America worth watching now and then. Without them, it's just another anonymous cable channel with nothing special to offer. So, I do not think that they want to carry the 'rebrand' too far.
