Long-time traffic reporter Barry Vee's last day was Friday the 5th. So who is next to leave the big 1180 ???

BTW, we're not talking about service to the listener. We're talking about payroll vs. profit.
That's not what Barry recently told someone. He said he was leaving WHAM to pursue other business ventures that he's involved in. As for Clear Channel offering him another job, it sounds like the same promise made to those who were let go late last year. The only person ending up remaining with Clear Channel is Mike DiGiorgio, who is now working for Channel 13.JacksRadio1 said:Barry was not let go from WHAM. Traffic was eliminated Barry will probably be moved to another position in the company; i.e. producer of the Lonsberry show.
Yes you are fortunate for not accepting that position at WHAM. What I don't understand is how a station that bills itself as the "News Leader" can eliminate two full time reporters, a talk show producer and now traffic and still claim that mantle? At the rate things are going eventually there will be no local radio news in Rochester in the near future. Instead it will be just people either re-writing from the local newspaper, reading AP wire copy or depending on TV news sound bytes.Andrew said:Glad I passed on doing traffic for ClearChannel after all. WHAM has a new traffic reporter, Cathy Dunman, on in the morning and another new voice on during pm drive time.

Both Clear Channel and Entercom offer traffic reports to a number of radio stations. I find it somewhat ironic that WXXI is paying WHAM for their traffic reports. After all WHAM's Bob Lonsberry has been such a vocal critic of public radio for years. Now the company he's working for is getting revenue from XXI.
I wish someone could explain to me the fixation that Clear Channel and Time Warner has with Syracuse. Not that I am knocking Syracuse, but first R-News has its weather operation located in Syracuse and now I read that Clear Channel's traffic center is located in that city. Even before Clear Channel purchased Channel 13, Ackerly had the master control center from moved from Henrietta to Syracuse.JacksRadio1 said:WHAM (and all of Clear Channel Rochester)'s traffic is now based out of Syracuse. Hence the "new reporter."

Uh...Mark? In terms of you last comment (most of WHAM staff listens to public radio) ...NOTHING could be further from the truth. Sorry.

For a group that supposedly didn't listen to WXXI these people certainly monitored WXXI's newscasts and were familiar with what talk show host Bob Smith had to say. Now if that's not people monitoring another radio station, I don't know what is. Besides I was told by a number of friends at WHAM that they listened to XXI. So maybe you didn't but others did.
