Another WiLD PD Gone??

Rumblings around the ATL say JB is out as the PD of Clear Channel's WiLD. He is already gone from the website. Does anyone have additional information? This is the 3rd PD gone in less then 2 years. The building of death continues....

Let me guess: Classic Hits. Then the dial automatically will go from absolutely terrible to the best in the world.

You cannot deny that almost every commercial you see, and even the Olympics last night played oldies.

As far as older stuff goes, I would say I hear "classic hits" (read: 70s/80s overall, WCBS-FM music) the most in marketing. I actually hear a good amount of disco and new wave in commercials/marketing in addition to classic rock.

Honestly, I hear a lot of alternative in the marketing as well. Thinking to the new one by FUN in the car commercial and also the one by Alex Clare and also Awolnation. The "Too Close" song by Alex Clare was played in commercials before it ever made it on Alternative stations.

yeah, everytime any station is mentioned on here there's the immediate "will they change formats and go classic hits?" first dave and now wild, it's crazy.

i haven't spoken to JR, so i don't know what's happened. but i hope whatever it is that JR lands on his feet. he's a great guy with a good head on his shoulders. he's programmed winners and will continue to do so.

as roddy has said many times, their problem is their signal. they really should be on 105.3. i'd even vote for 96.1.

At least there aren't rampant "book it" rumors with 105.7/96.7 like 92.9. Shouldn't 92.9 be sports now? ::)

If CC would make WiLD's imaging (the music is already there) sound more Mainstream CHR instead of Urban, it'd sound pretty good as a youth-leaning CHR. I've suggested a swap with 105.7/96.7 and 96.1 before.

If it weren't for me to see all the things that happened to rhythmic top 40 KZON in Phoenix during their first YEAR AND A HALF, I'd also think 3 PD's in 2 years was some outrageous number. By the way, that same once said to be "failure" station was on the TOP of the ratings sheet, normally where Hot AC, AC, and Oldies used to hang out. I'm not saying that WiLD will one day surpass V103, but... I am saying it couldn't be a failure... unless someone comes to mess it back up like it was during its early stages.

I think Clear Channel is happy with the Rhythmic format on 105.7/96.7 I don't see them making any format or signal swaps anytime soon. When the folks at Cox dumped Rhythmic CC snatched the format quickly ,plus no other station in ATL is Rhythmic so why not be exclusive. Remember, GROOVE went full Rhythmic with just the 105.7 signal and the 96.7 simulcast was added after the WiLD rebranding. The CC folks must think with 105.7 covering the north and 96.7 covering the South they can't loose. Elvis Duran's Morning Show is the big problem if u ask me. Is CJ & Murph Dawg In The Morning only availible on Cox Pops and Rhythmics??? They would be a great addition to WILD but I think they are apart of THE BEAT on HD here in ATL???

Dave is a completely different story, Amos. It's ratings have been in the dumpster for the past year. I do expect a format change by September, and sports is still the rumor.

WiLD is pretty much CHR now, more than Rhythmic CHR. I don't know why they still report as Rhythmic. The point I was making was that the music doesn't match the imaging, which has more of an Urban/Rhythmic sound. If they're going for a CHR sound, the imaging needs to be adjusted accordingly.

The only Cox station I know of that carries Murph Dog and CJ is Hot 98.1 in Greenville, which I believe, is their only Rhythmic CHR these days.

roddy, haven't dave's ratings been in the dumpster much more than the past year?

i hope you're right, but i don't see it happening. one thing is for sure, though. cbs has given them plenty of time to get it right. like them or not, it's encouraging to see an owner not bail at the first hint of low numbers.

if merlin, for instance, had been true believers in their format they would have fixed their product instead of bailing out so fast.

Are the sports rumors on 92.9 still going, or is that just going from those posts on here the other week? I still think it's rather unlikely.

CBS has let the station stay on the air and put up with the numbers because despite them being low, the station has always been said to bill well.
