Another WROC/WUHF employee leaving.....surprise surprise....

And the revolving door keeps revolving.....They should just set up a bakery there considering the amount of turnovers they produce....make mine apple!!! The best WROC employee is an ex-WROC employee!!! :p

But this is just not anybody! As RNYN reports:

RNYN has learned that Lia Lando will be leaving WROC/WUHF at the end of the month. Lando was hired in late 2005 to anchor the re-launched 10:00 news on FOX Rochester

Ah yes, the "news actresss" as she is referred here by some posters and once said that Benjamin Franklin was president is leaving.

Gee am I shocked to hear this piece of news. ::) I wonder if her resume tape included the story about the "coop" that occurred in some foreign country? What will be interesting is to see who will take over as FOX 31’s anchor?

Your Assistance Please

I do have a question that perhaps someone could answer. From the story Jack Allen wrote Lando arrived at WROC in 2005; meaning that she's been at the station less than two years.

Correct me if I am wrong, because I never worked in a union shop nor signed a contract, but normally doesn't the on-air talent at 8 have three year contracts? And if that's the case, then how does Lando get to break her agreement with WROC and leave early?

I understand there is a no-compete clause that forbids someone from 8 going to work at 10 or 13 for a period of time after leaving WROC. But I was curious if there is anything in a contract preventing a person from leaving a station before that contract expires?

Okay then question number two. Did she leave on her own, or was she shown the front door? Not that it really matters but this would be the first of Eldridge's hires to leave.

I was told Lando left on her own and has no job lined up.

When a person leaves without first lining up another job that should indicate what a hell-hole Channel 8/31 must be to work at. Besides Lando's husband is a lawyer, so I'm sure they won't starve. As for Whitfield, I do believe she was an Eldridge hire.

If what I have heard about why she is leaving is accurate, some of you are going to feel pretty bad about some of the comments made here.

I rarely butt in with my opinion just because I try to remain un-biased with my website, but I think it's about time I say something. Some of the comments that are left on this board are just plain ridiculous. There is so much trash talk on here that I sometimes don't even find it worth reading. Okay so Channel 8 is going through some tough times. Everyone knows that... What I find unneccesary are these personal attacks on people who have made some mistakes on-air. Also I might mention that it is the same mistakes that are brought up over and over again by you folks. Is that all you have? I don't believe a person's ability to perform at a job should be based upon two or three slip-ups. I also would like to ask how many of you think you could be "perfect journalists" like you all seem to expect from everyone. Perhaps I haven't articulated very well, but I'm sure the point has gotten across.

I hope that the reason this young lady is leaving isn't because of medical or other personal reasons? Anyways good luck to her whatever her reasons for resigning from Channel 8. Unfortunately broadcasting seems to enjoy eating its young.

It's my fault really for brining up some old past running gag. I apologize for the offensiveness and crudness I may brought about it, and wish Ms. Lando the best of luck.

I too would like to apologize for my comments to Ms. Lando. Sometimes I was quite nasty in my remarks and feel ashamed now for mentioning them. Who am I to judge someone for making mistakes? God knows I've made many. I only hope that Ms. Lando is a forgiving person and that she will accept my apology. And I also wish her the best of luck.

Well? Why is she leaving, then? So coincidentally near the 2-year anniversary of her contract, with a new ND in place?

Just because a person is leaving does not mean his or her contract was not renewed. Maybe they chose to leave after their contract was up. And just possibly they are leaving because they are pursuing something outside of tv--something that means a heck of a lot more than working at CH. 8. Like I said previously, it is a personal issue, not a personnel issue. There's a lot more to life than tv, and Lia is proving that. Best of luck to her.

My curiosity got the best of me so I contacted a “source” of mine at Channel 8 who informed me that she decided to leave on her own without being forced out the door, or not having her contract renewed.

Maybe, like a lot of us, she decided there was more to life than broadcasting. I’ve known a lot of people, including yours truly, who have taken another road….and I was in the business a lot longer than she was.

She's leaving because she just wanted to tead the new, not report it. At Channel 8, it's obvious from watching that you have to do both. She was a debacle and viewers deserve someone intelligent who knows how to pronounce words correctly.

Well she is gone and now let's see who the critics will go after next.

Channel 8 has to be working with a skeleton crew. How they manage to get out a daily news product is beyond me.
