Anothernother probl with HHD rraadio

I like KQK. It’s my kind of music. So, in the interest of supporting local radio I listen. BUT…up here in Millington the HD and analog are constantly switching in and out. That wasn’t really a problem…until just a day or so ago. Now the digital and analog streams are on a different time base by about ½ second, so when the radio switches in and out of HD it sounds like a record skipping.

Don’ t know if the same is true on the other Entercom stations.

Gee, any more technological advancements and radio will be completely unlistenable.

Just listen totally in Analog. It sounds better anyway.

HD Radio is the biggest boondoggle ever conceived in Broadcating. A solution in search of a problem. Empirical evidence now shows it doesn't work well at all. Your experience is just additional evidence.

As a result of recent storm damage, we are replacing our 20 kw analog transmitter. The cost of a HD transmitter capable of meeting the proposed new
power level for HD, and the 20KW analog power level was FOUR times more
than analog alone. We opted for analog only. Mistake? JBI

No mistake, rather a wise move...

Agree

it takes me many more steps to disable HD on my radio. I have been listening to 102.7 hd2 slot lately and it frequently looses lock in Collierville and even sometimes in midtown.

Analog and HD back to full power yesterday at about 1:00pm.

Perhaps, but KQK's timebase problem is still there.

WEGR has the only reliable HD signal in N Shelby County, obviously because of tower location. Overall, it looks like digital coverage pretty much blows, and digital dropouts are much harder to take from a listener standpoint.

On AM, IBOC sounds great...but the very interference it was supposed to eliminate (power line noise, etc) make the radios drop out of HD.

You're part of a trend...a year ago, WTLC AM 1310 in Indy suffered flood damage at their transmitter site. When they returned, it was also in analog only. Your only mistake was in buying the first HD transmitter.

Saur, we're in the middle of what has been a real Edsel Murphy move of the facilities from Union and Ridgeway into Moriah Woods. It's been one of those two steps forward one step back kind of things. The HD will be gone tomorrow night entirely and I don't know what the plan is for getting it back on. Right now we're just trying to get things working at the new location and keep what's left of Ridgeway alive. I was never a believer in the iBiquity system and would turn it all off right now if it was up to me. Fortuneately my challenges are pretty much limited to the new studios and I don't have to worry about the RF issues, although I am helping out there when needed.
