antenna for locals (and dxing)

Another example how "The Geek Squad" are a bunch of idiots. The antenna is tuned for the UHF band but the ad claims VHF reception. The multi directional aspect is also embellished. Beyond that the antenna is based on a design used for years and if you search the net you will find the same antenna made by Channel Master or Winegard for less money. Depending on placement you will receive stations about 50 or so miles away.

The $3 fm wire FM dipole from Radio Shack should work well enough to get Dothan and Pamana City. I use a $30 FM reflect from Ccrane Co. which seems to work a little better for me.

i tried an amplified antenna and couldn't even get WEAR here. just channel 23 (PBS)
even with PC off, still couldn't get them.

best buy needs to be sold. there way too pricey.

Compact and amplified antennas in my experience of 20 years of radio DXing on any band will never perform as good as your basic dipole or yagi. If you want direction you need a yagi or log periodic type antenna. A Winegard, Channel Master or other type TV antenna that looks like this :

is as best as they get for both TV and FM for performance and price.
