Antenna Installation: 2002 Dodge Neon

I hope it is OK to post this question on this board.

I just recently bought a plug and play Sirius unit that I plan to take back and forth between the car and my home stereo. (It is the Xact Replay, in case that matters later on.) I am pretty sure I know how I am going to mount the unit, however, I am stumped on how to do the rooftop installation of the antenna. I have figured out that I need to run the wire under the rubber window molding (at least according to other forums I have read), but I cannot figure out where to go from there. How do I "get around" the trunk seal to get the wire into the trunk? And from there, how do I run the wire into the car itself? While the backseat of an '02 Neon is flexible for additional cargo storage, the whole seat does not fold down, just two middle sections... and the last thing I want is the wire to appear from within the seat for both looks and protection of the wire.

In short, I need to determine how to get the wire to the doorjam molding to run to the front of the car. Does anyone have one installed in a later model Neon who can give me a few pointers? Or is there anywhere online where I can find out? Google searches thus far have not given me much to go on. A video on the Crutchfield website shows installation on a Honda Accord, but stops after the window molding portion. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

I think I can help... I just installed Sirius today on my '99 Toyota corolla. I had the exact same question you did as I gazed at my car for 10 minutes wondering how/where to mount the antenna. I was able to install the antenna on the trunk by running the wire/antenna through the molding in back of the back seat (i just shouved it in there as my seats do no fold down either) and it came out into the trunk. Assuming you have access through the back of your trunk (a little hole is all i had but it was just enough) this will work. I then ran the antenna wire around the back seat down to the floor side floor moldings by the driver side back/front seats. It is a very clean installation and you cannot even tell there is an antenna wire anywhere in the car. The documentation that came with my satellite tuner said mounting the antenna on the trunk was for "convertables only". Well, the radio works like a charm and it is far from a convertable lol. Perfect reception (except for one odd spot by a communications tower which is a known dead spot for some odd reason).

SO in summary, do not worry about mounting the antenna on the roof of the car. I hope this helped. If not my excuse is i am tired from driving around all day so I could listen to my radio lol.

He is completely right. I have a 1990 Dodge Spirit that I installed the Sirius system into. If you put the antenna between your back windshield and the trunk lid of your car, it will give you an optimal signal, with no problems or interference. I tried everything else and had little success acquiring a decent signal. The space between your trunk and back glass is the way to go. It looks ok, and it's easily removed and tossed in the trunk when you're in need of a car wash.
