Antenna Solutions for problem HD locations

It looks like Godar has done some testing using the Sangean HDT-1. For those who have antenna problems, or can't mount a good Yagi outside. This Godar antenna might be a solution for you.

I personally have never benefited from any of those amplified antennas. This one is not amplified but passive, like your dipole. It seems to take advantage of being accurately cut to the frequency, and coiled for maximum gain.

We all might be in this situation once we get saddled in the retirement home.

check it out;

I never was really a fan of indoor antennas, but then again I'm trying to pull in HD stations 60-84 miles out. My Yagi does a pretty good job, but if something ever happens to it then I wont really get any radio. Thats why I would like to either have another alternitive or a back-up aux. antenna.

Even if you have an outdoor Yagi, an indoor antenna is a good idea (unless you have a rotor). In my location, most radio comes from either due south (Charlotte), or due east (Greensboro). Charlotte is the most distant, so a Yagi permanently pointed south, and an indoor antenna pointed east, with an a/b switch would be a good solution.

Just wondering..... How many everyday consumers do you think are familiar with the term "Yagi?" And how many Homeowner Assn's do you think would allow such things mounted on houses in their neighborhoods?

Can anyone tell me, what is in the fringe godar that isn't in the standard model?

Isn't a piece of wire, a piece of wire?

Hillbillicus, are you under the impression that this board is populated by "average citizens"? It's not only radio geeks and professionals who gather here, but a pretty specific group of them.

But as for "yagi"...it's the same type of multi-element antenna that's appeared above the roofs of millions of homes for the last sixty years. And FREE over-the-air HDTV has led to the installation of millions more. Don't kid yourself that most of us live in areas where "homeowners associations" have any sway! Here in rural America, there's an antenna on most every roof, and one or more satellite dishes in the yard.
