Antenna TV is coming to Providence WNAC

WNAC is now listed on Antenna TV’s website as an affiliate, though they haven’t yet specified an OTA substation. Rabbitears.info says that it will be on 64-4 (RF 12.9). Nexstar, owner of WNAC and WPRI, acquired Tribune TV which includes Antenna TV, so this isn’t a big surprise.

However, WNAC is no longer coming in for me. I can get WLNE, WJAR, and WPRI just fine. For whatever reason, WNAC has disappeared in the past month or so. Anyone know if they’re operating on a reduced signal?

Edit: I had changed my VHF antenna position to receive WPRI, and apparently that was at the expense of WNAC. I moved it back - I now get WNAC again.

WNAC has Antenna TV on 64.4 but there is no picture or sound yet. According to the station's engineer, the station should start operating by mid to late March.

On another note, I am getting another channel, 10.5, on WJAR's subchannel, but no signal or sound is available.

A scan of WJAR's signal shows no sign of a fifth subchannel right now. If it is still on the air it could actually be on the signal of another RI station.

My money will be on Charge! Sinclair owns four OTA networks where they're available on Sinclair stations (Comet, TBD, Charge!, Stadium). WJAR already carries two out of the four, so my money is on Charge! next.

Yeah, if WJAR adds something else, it's likely to be Charge!, Stadium, or Dabl.

A Facebook post from Antenna TV says it has launched on WVMA-CD 22 in Winchedon, MA, and transmitting from near Keene, NH. The coverage area from the FCCdata.org site appears to be around the Vermont-New Hampshire border.

I just noticed that my local Antenna TV affiliate, WNAC 64.4 transmits Antenna Tv in 16:9 format, so that the right and left sides of the picture are black striped. However, WCRN 31.6, which I rarely receive because of its low power signal, transmits the station with 4:3 format, and the picture fills the screen. I could be wrong about the formats, but why the difference between the two stations in picture format?

WNAC is transmitting it in the proper format. I believe there is something in the broadcast signal which indicates to the TVs that receive it how to display the picture. WCRN is using the same setting for all of its stations, even though some of the stations shouldn’t be displayed as full screen.
