Anthony Cumia coming to WABC

What an idiot. "I have to meet a certain nut". Dude it's practically free money, just take it - for 2 hours a day. 50K

Dopie will NEVER EVER make the same amount of money he was making during the hey day of the O&A show on WNEW-FM. Or Sirius for that matter. Those days are over.
I mean, he and Anthony had a very acrimonious breakup (in particular on social media) to the point where IMO no amount of money could mend it.
I do not doubt that WABC made an offer to the two of them until the premise of a reunion. They probably did so knowing Opie would immediately turn it down.

Imus was advocating for Opie's being on WABC when he was still around. I'm certain he did get offers.

The thing that's fascinating about Opie's career is that he was the "radio guy" of O&A. He went to college for communications, started the way a lot of us did. He wasn't a standup or bringing the same thing to the show Cumia did, but he was the "anchor" that kept things moving and more of a student of the medium than Anthony. Yet Anthony at least in the short term (possibly because he was so polarizing and leaned into it) seemed to do better post-radio with his Compound Media stuff and Opie seemed to flounder with his projects and not get much traction.

In terms of his comments on salary/revenue sharing, I gather that Opie wasn't foolish with his money during the glory days of O&A, but he has two kids. There's assets and there's expenses, and being a parent isn't cheap as your kids get closer to college especially. So if he's saying look, WABC is offering me some ridiculously low figure, or low base, then you calculate the revenue sharing isn't even putting you in the low six figures once you give the agent his cut, it's very possible the numbers don't look great. Anthony's a single, no kids guy who moved to South Carolina and sold his "compound" so maybe being back on being a political guy on WABC is worth it to him. Different lifestyles, different personalities.

I remember the first time I heard O&A. College visit to Boston in the fall of 2001. I'd heard the hype, but since jackarse Mel Karmazin didn't believe in streaming at the time, I hadn't heard the show.

One of them goes, "What do a grizzly bear and a girl in West Virginia have in common? They both like to lick their paws." Read it aloud.

I was 18 and thought it was hilarious. Who in radio is serving that audience now?

Podcast bros.

Opie and Anthony basically gave birth to Rogan's podcast, he has talked about how influential their show was to him.

I'm 35 but my sense of humor is still quite immature and there are a lot of funny podcasts out there that don't involve Rogan. My personal favorite has such a rude name I can't post it here.

I would say Dave and Chuck the Freak out of Detroit on WRIFF.

As a huge Dave and Chuck fan, I would say no. Different sensibilities entirely.

D&C is a FAR smarter show than O&A ever was.
