Any Boston tributes for Donna Summer?

Today, we lost Dorchester-born LaDonna Adrian Gaines, better known as Donna Summer, at the age of 63. Outside of WODS-FM 103.3, is it known if any stations will tribute her between now and the weekend? :'(

In any other city, there would be an Urban AC station with live disc jockeys that would take time out of the regular programming to pay tribute to her. Allso there would probably be someone on staff who worked with her during Summer's career. But no, this is Boston. We don't have that. Never mind that this is Summer's hometown.

listened to Philly Black for 2 hours - didnt hear Donna Summer. he played a ton of disco too. crazy!? some woman called in and asked for him to play donna summer, and he already did. Rodigan played lovers rock for 2 hours. very bizarre

At this rate, I wish stations like WXKS, WJMN, WMJX or WBMX for that matter took time out and pay some respect to Summer by playing her music.

WBMX is/has been doing just what you described above all day today. Tomorrow morning we'll interview Karen Blake from WODS who, from what i understand, had a long personal and professional relationship with Donna Summer.

It is wholly absurd to think that this would get anything beyond a passing mention,
on stations where the late Ms. Summer's music is not normally a part of their
format/playlist. A guaranteed tuneout for the core audience.

May 19 is Donna Summer Saturday on 'ODS.
Whether that will include the full range of her discography I don't know. Obviously you'll hear She works hard but something like I feel love the gay fav'-maybe not?

There, ladies and gentlemen, is everything you need to know about what is wrong with the industry today, and why lack of creativity means some people hit the apex of their careers at 700 watt commodes.

Barry Scott's Saturday night 70's show will do a special tonight.

??? You call hauling out a bunch of songs from an artist creative? Playing them on a station that in no way fits your format creative? I call that insane.

According to on-line playlists posted at Yes.com, WODS-103.3 broadcast an hour and twenty minutes of Donna Summer's music from around 11:50 A.M. to about 1:10 P.M. EDT on Thursday (May 17th), after word of her death reached the station.

Kennedy Compound just did a tribute to "Donna Summer and EttaJames" which consisted mostly of Billie Holliday .. don't know how these things work

I agree with thirdendorsed. Here in Hartford, CT we also do not have an Urban AC station, so once again CBS's Hip-Hop formated Hot 93.7 WZMX stepped up to the plate. They played a half hour of Donna Summer's music during their 9AM Old School Block Friday Morning. And today (Monday) they played a few Bee Gees songs during said 9AM Old School Block and several more Bee Gees songs this afternoon during their Ride at 5 Rush Hour Mix. WZMX has not had Donna Summer or The Bee Gees in their playlist in more than 11 years since they flipped from Dancin' Oldies (Infinity's Version of Jammin' Oldies) to Hip-Hop in March 2001.

Surprise Surprise that there was more Donna Summer Music on a station that doesn't play her music (HOT 93.7) than one that does play her music. (102.9 DRC-FM).

I heard that WLYN did in fact pay tribute to the late Ms. Summer by spinning an hour of her tunes, but they were the Russian versions.

If so, that would have been on WAZN 1470. That would have been at the discretion of the
programmer, Davidzon Radio in New York. In no way do i mean any disrespect for Ms. Summer.
My original point was that of programming decisions should be based solely on the format of a given station.

Barry Scott also did at least 5 hours of her music on his regular Sunday Night show as well. BTW, I am happy to have heard such tunes as "Who Do You Think You're Fooling", "Cold Love" "She Works Hard For The Money" and "Unconditional Love" as well! :)
