Im going there in August, and I just want to know, If I should even bother with bringing a walkman. Im hoping at least one of the National Dance stations is audible there. Will I be close enough to get the Dance stations in Rome, Like M2o radio, and Radio CDR? And one more thing, is two weeks in Venice going to be rough on someone who is used to American Cites. From what ive read and scene in brochures, you cant drive their, because the streets are flooded with water, because of the Canal. Im hoping they at least have some Clubs, and hopefully places to get American Food/ Im both excited, and nervous to go to Europe for the first time.

Hey bro, definitely bring a walkman with you. Almost ALL of the national Dance stations have a frequency in Venice.
M20 can be heard on 105.7 FM in Venice as seen here:
http://www.m2o.it/fm_frequenze.php?regione=Veneto

You might be able to get Studio Piu on 92 FM:
http://www.studiopiu.net/sp/ascoltaci.php

You might be able to get Disco Radio on 101.7 FM:
http://www.discoradio.it/freq_reg.cfm?reg=Veneto

Radio Centro Suono might have a frequency in Venice too. Viva FM might also have a frequency in the city but I'm not sure.

For CHR/Pop radio you have
Radio Deejay on 89.3 and 94.8 FM:
http://www.deejay.it/default.jsp?s=radio&l=frequenze&id=20&regione=Veneto

Play Radio (formely Italia Network) can be heard on either 93.1 or 95.7 FM:
http://www.playradio.it/it/playRadio/frequenze_veneto.shtml

Radio Company can be heard on either 90.9 or 96 FM:
http://www.radiocompany.com/frequenze.php

105 Network can be heard in 96.4 and 98.9 FM:
http://www.105.net/Musica/Frequenze?regione=Veneto

You might also be able to pick up Radio Piterpan
http://www.piterpan.it/newsite/radio.php

Radio Dimensione Suono can be heard on 99.8 Fm:
http://www.rds.it/

You might even be in a situation with like 3-5 Dance stations, 8 CHR/Pop stations, and a few good Rock stations.
There should be some good House clubs in Venice, and some good Progressive clubs not too far in the tourist city of Rimini.
From Venice you'll have an easy time travelling to pretty much every major city in Italy with the train system. You're in for a great 2 weeks for sure :)

Thanks man, I didnt know there would be that many.

Should be... but it'd better be a good walkman, preferably able to tune in 0.05MHz steps. Italy is total and complete radio anarchy - interference levels are insane. Staying tuned to one station while driving long distance is very difficult without a frequency list - in some places even RDS radios struggle.

www.frequenze-radio.it is the bible of Italian frequencies, although it is sometimes inaccurate for smaller places, and not much use at all for rural areas, it's the best there is. According to them, this is the bandscan for dance stations in Venice and Mestre - the "real world city" bit of Venice on the mainland.

90.4 Bum Bum Energy (I kid you not)
95.7 / 96.7 Play Radio
99.05 / 100.8 RMC 2
105.75 M2O

All frequencies are subject to sudden change without notice, and week-long blackouts for no apparent reason.

The streets ARE canals. You get around on foot (over bridges), or on boats, which serve as taxis and buses. There are no roads or cars. This should not be a problem, although waterproof shoes might be a good idea... even if Italy does have half the average income of the USA, it's still a prosperous country. Their hospitals are better than yours, honest. :)

I'd guess Venice isn't the best place in Italy for clubs, being a haven for artists, writers and poets... but it is a big city, so there must be something.

Unfortunately neither RCS or Viva FM do have channels in town - and Studio+ and Discoradio are both blocked out by local stations.

Some of the local stations may be dance format, though - make sure you report back :)

Radio Piterpan is reported by frequenze-radio.it as having a strong signal in the area on 91.6.

You're not wrong there, it's a fantastic place.

Hopefully while there, I will be able to find the clubs, seeing as they will be marked in Italian, and I wont have the slightest idea of where to find them. Im guessing I should just walk down the busy streets, and look for buildings that have HOUSE music blasting out of them. I am aware that I probably wont get very good reception on a walkman while their, seeing as stations are closer spaced over there, and plus, the large number of Unlicensed broadcasters. I might even pick up a few Small Unlicensed stations, that dont even have websites. Also, I heard that alot of 3rd party pirate stations in small towns and villages, will relay pirate signals from the Big metro citys, usually via Internet stream.

They are all unlicenced: there are no radio licences in Italy. Unlicenced broadcasting is completely legal (this is why it's so chaotic). The only exceptions are that a station can be shut down by law for causing excessive interference to an already existing station, for causing a health and safety hazard, or for being a threat to law and order.

Yes, you read that right.

Unfortunately the FM band is full, even in rural mountain valleys... new stations still appear on a regular basis though, largely by buying/exchanging frequencies, just as you might buy any other piece of property.
