any ex-KTAC people out there?

Good job, Greg!

I don't remember Hanson or Sugar ever having THAT MUCH HAIR!!?? If you put those two together in those days they made one FULL head of locks. Great memories. It was a great station, and I always thought it was much more fun with 45's and even with carts. The computer thing today is nice for giving time to do other things (think "bathroom break"), but also hard to feel connected to the gig when the computer "lets" you jump in twice an hour to grunt call letters and handles everything else.

Greg,

You were excellent at Ktac, i remember these people there:

Bruce Cannon is Ktac!
Ric Hansen
Chuck Bolland
Bob Case
Rob Sherwood
Dave christianson
Steve Lloyd
Bob Hardwick
Dick Haugan
Ron Erak
Paul Thompson
JJ the morning guy
Ken Copper
Nick Diamond
Bob Cochran
Ann DeAngelo
Janie Dillion
Gary Crow
Steve West
Steve Blackburn
Don Wade
Bobby Simon
Who am I missing?

Sean Carter (Vic Orlando).
Uhhh...and me...Peter McLaine.
I was there from November, 1979 to late 1980(?) when I left to work for Gary at KNBQ.

We were on the 7th floor(?) of the Tacoma Mall Office building.
And what was the name of our Promotions Driector?
Nancy something?
(I am embarrassed I can't remember her last name and we dated for a while.)

And Greg - may I call you Greg - are you still on the air in San Diego?
Geez, we haven't talked in years!
(And aren't you thankful for that? LOL)

LBB ~ If you’ve got any stories of Ric or “Sug” – you must share! Did we work together? Just found another pic of Bruce that I just posted.

Dunno ~ Wow, you’ve got an incredible memory! I was there from 77-81 and worked with a lot of the folks you listed. Ken Copper is here in San Diego and I’ve chatted with him a couple of times. Great guy. Dunno -did we work together?

Peter ~ I vaguely remember Nancy but couldn’t tell you her last name. You and I worked together in college, KTAC, KPLZ and WARM. I hosted a morning show in SD till late ’04 when Clear Channel decided to make some changes and I was one of them. Working p/t at country station in SD, missing f/t radio but the radio landscape sure has changed! E-mail me at [email protected] and give me an update on you.

More pictures from The Scott Bauer collection coming soon…

Tacoma's 85 KTAC....one of my most overlooked stations.

They had a surprisingly good signal, came in clear up to Lynnwood. One name I've ALWAYS associated with KTAC was Bruce Cannon. As one poster pointed out - he WAS KTAC.

Didn't he also do some work for the newly launched KMTT in the early '90s?

Heard he's doing good at KOZI in Chelan......

He was still employed by Entercom...KMTT was Entercom's only viable property at that point when they first launched KMTT. His job, as he described it to me, was "to babysit the public file". They really didn't use him as they COULD have.

Not long after that, Entercom whipped out the credit card and started buying everything that was LITERALLY within two blocks (KNDD, KBSG, etc.). KIXI had already gone to Sandusky...remember when it was paired with 107.7 FM? (KIXI's acquisition forced the fire sale of 1540 AM, Sandusky's AM, and "Country Gold Network" started...)

It was a great station! Steve West hired me from the Tri Cities, Sugar Bruce, Joe Fiala and myself ROCKED Tacoma from day one. Steve was a brilliant PD. I remember when we went to all local High Schools and had the cheer-leaders do the top of the hour ID's which really gave Tacoma the radio station it had needed for decades.

Be safe,

Crowski

Crow,

Followed you at several stations! About the 3rd I asked who put the crows on all
these records!!! LOL You've always been a tough act to follow!

Missed a couple other KTAC alum:

Captain Kirk
Mark Jefferies? Not Bollands brother (quite the story between those two!) Greg you know it!
Scott Norman
Nick Diamond
Jeff Rynard
? Moore, I think he did middays after you Greg
Mike Brown (sports guy at Kiro)
Al Dale

Anyone know what Dave Christianson's doing these days. Good guy!

Dave & I stay in touch...just had lunch a couple weeks ago. He's mostly in tech. circles now...where media & computers converge. Has been @ Microsoft in various (employee + freelance) capacities. He seems happy! (Lives in Seattle)

Dunno ~

You mean Capt. Kirk and TOM Jeffries? Yup, a little drama to say the least. I heard that Jefrries' wife ending up marrying the Capt.

Dan Moore was the guy who did middays after me.

Dave Christianson ~ great guy...

Later worked with Scott Norman at KJR and Al Dale at MAGIC 108..

BTW -- I posted a Bruce Cannon aircheck on Facebook. If you're on Facebook, just do a search for 85 KTAC and you should be directed to the page. (Unlike setting up a link for pictures, like the one I posted here a couple of days ago -- I haven't figured out how to do that for a video...)

Sugar Bruce was my mentor. One of the most over looked personalities ever. He is now working east of the moutains and having a ball.
Be safe everyone.

It has been great fun reading this thread. It was when radio was fun for the DJ's as well as the listeners. Something sorely missed today.

Good grief Grindl - why do you have to hijack EVERY thread on this board to continually remind us about you hatred of corporate radio?

Couple more names came to mind from KTAC days.

Don Wade, didn't he go as the Real Don Wade. Very funny guy! There in 70's.
Bobby Simon at one time?
Robert O Smith? I believe he also did some TV work on 13's Night mare Theater?
Tim Edwards, came from Tri Cities, then to the Q97.3, KMPS, KJR, now any one know where he is now?

I hardly consider making one comment on a thread here and there as "hijacking". You corporate bozos are so hyper sensitive and defensive. You have created the radio disaster of today and you have a hard time taking criticism for it. You have nobody to blame but yourselves. And I will post all I want here.
