Any flooded out transmitter sites?

I was wondering if Rusty has a flood on his hands at 590 or did the flood levees hold?
Other sites in/near flood plains: WGKA, WQXI AM 790, WAFS 920 AM, WGUN 1010, 680 The Fan, 1420 AM, WYZE 1480 AM, 1500 AM WDCY. Anyone have any info on these sites?
WRAS 88.5 is high and dry so far. The DSL and T-1 circuit have failed so I can't get video back from the security system - it was raining REAL hard when the DSL went out. WE are on the banks of the South River and have been flooded before - water actually got inside the building when the 3 hurricanes moved through several years back.
I'm not sure it there are other FM's threatened by all the rain - anyone know?

WCHK in Canton could make this list. I know a motel close to their towers was evacuated. I can't pick them up but I live out of their night time pattern.

I just spoke with a Citadel engineer in Dallas who said she heard 590 lost the site this morning. She gave me the impression it was GONE - washed away! What a shame!
WCHK would absolutely be in the bulls eye.....it's on the banks of the Etowah in the flood plain.

You would not believe the Cheshire Bridge Rd area---the transmitter shacks of WQXI are gone. Two of the towers are leaning and could collapse...Unbelievable scene...Plus I live about 2 miles SE of the sites and WQXI is barely audible...

WAZX 1550 AM Smyrna was off the air today (Monday, Sept. 21). Their transmitter site is located in Powder Springs.

I can confirm that WQXI 790 is on low power. I am located 1.5 mi. away and signal strength is significantly down.

I know,,,,It sounds like 50 watts???? Go and look at the site if you can.

I wonder if the 97.1 site is accessable. The building and tower are on high ground but the access road and two guy points are probably under the Mulberry River. I'll look this evening.

Don't worry, the way Brisket and the Stews shout, you can still hear the station.

WQXI sounds like it's about 500 watts. But I went by the site, camera in hand, and there was nothing unusual. The towers are not near collapse nor are they even leaning. The transmitter room is high up so I doubt it was flooded. I'm guessing the ATU structures were temporarily under water.

WDWD apparently has much more serious problems.

Rusty has some pics posted on his FaceBook page of the Radio Disney 590 AM flooding. Towers are still standing but the transmitter building is under water along with all the tuning houses at the bases of the towers.
It's not the complete loss I was afraid it might be but it will take much restoration. I'm glad to hear WQXI survived - I used to engineer one of the stations next door and flooding was a big problem. Several years back, the city did extensive work to improve drainage and prevent flooding in that area but with rainfall approaching 4-6 inches per hour there is little you can do.
Sonny Perdue has now officially called on Gawd to end his wrath so I feel better.......

What a shame. Didn't they just do a power increase? Is there another site for somekind of emergercy daytime service? It will take sometime just to get whats left dryed out. Is this a "new" site?. It has been many years but, I thought thier site was close to the Eas-West connector.

Yes He just did a power increase on the day signal. The 590 site has been there for a number of years, after it was moved out of its old site.

The signal strength is back up on WQXI AM 790 as of Tuesday night (9/22). The signal strength seems to be about what it should be on its night time power of 1kW at my location about 1.5 mi away.

WAZX AM 1550 Smyrna with their transmitter site in Powder Springs was again off the air all day on Tuesday (9/22).

Now, you would think that some AMs in the area would take advantage of the special provisions that the FCC allows stations within disaster zones to stay on the air at their full daytime power during the evenings. I think the FCC waves the directionality provisions as well. However, the stations must provide some sort of news service about the disaster to the community. For instance, WGST AM 640 could stay at 50kW into the evenings. As we all know, that would be hard to achieve with nearly all local AMs that could take advantage of this waver.

Everybody on AM seemed to be at full power during PM drive, except WDWD.

WDWD just went from 5k day to 12k day with a new pattern.

My daughter has a black ribbon on her radio antenna and is holding a candlelight vigil tomorrow night.

WBZ: Has WAZX been on the air lately? Are they under water? They've been on and off so much lately I wouldn't know if their being silent was due to the flooding or the fact that they have no revenue-generating programming.

About disaster waivers, you have to have a newsroom to provide a real-time news service. Who besides WSB has that anymore?

WGUN 1010AM's transmitter held good through the storm.

So Brent made up all that impending doom for QXI, huh?
