Any format changes on the horizon for charlotte?

Could an Adult Hits format be coming to charlotte? What about smooth jazz, hot ac or true oldies? We need a quality new station badly. I'm ready for XM if things don't change.

Charlotte is in a good position to get a satellite delivered Smooth jazz station, more than likely the BA Network. Any low performing station there is good fodder for it. It's cheap, has star musicians with scripts to read (they're not trained radio hosts, they just have name power so they have to read and sound like they don't) and virtually no maintenace for the station. An easy flip to the bird. BA is really selling it so don't be surprised. Charlotte is big enough to get a little $$ off the dish temporarily before they bail to the next format.

im waiting for something to happen. If not...screw charlotte radio. I'm glad I dont live there anymore!

I made a suggestion on another web site that 106.1 WNMX should try their hand
in talk radio since WBT is the only news/talk station in this city; They have a good
signal there and would be ideal.
As far as the others, maybe WXRC should try the "Adult Hits" format...

Charlotte had a Smooth Jazz station, & it didn't work.

Why do you think it would again?

Leave that format to Public Radio.

Please don't flip WNMX/Mix106 to Talk.

Listeners enjoy their "Timeless Favorites".

WBT has enough talk.

Putting it on FM isn't going to matter.

Adult Hits on 95.7/WXRC?

They shouldn't have dumped Howard, plus the great Classic & Active Rock they played.

No wonder their ratings are at the bottom.

That's when they're ratings were best.

Now, we have to listen to 99.7 with their ridiculous repetition of Fleetwood Mac/Pink Floyd.

Charlotte needs an Active Rocker - how about flipping the 107.9/The Link?

Talking about Talk Radio - they talk too much!

Every time I tune to them, there's somebody laughing - is it really that funny?

The last thing Charlotte needs is another right wing talker. But WMNX is not a full market FM by any means and will not flip. In fact, I don't see any FM flipping---too few FMs in the market for many flips to be considered---until WLNK is sold, then we might see something...

That may have been true a few years ago, but I think it would work now. The demographics in Charlotte are rapidly changing, with a lot of people from up north moving down where smooth jazz had pretty decent ratings. Not to say it would be a top station like KIFM in San Diego, but I think it would at least make the top 10 in the 25-34 and 35-64 demo. I thought WBAV was going to do the format for their HD-2, but the last time I checked, it didn't have anything listed. I wish someone in the industry would become "enlighten" and start doing formats that people actually like, instead of the same old crap.

Are you sure about that? The ratings don't look too high in the 12+, not to say that it isn't doing good in the target demo, but I'm not so sure it's so popular, since it misses most of Charlotte. They also aren't full time adult standards station, but telecast games. Not saying that I would like SJ on this format, because I think it would fail, but I would love to see something else. :)

Yikes we agree on that!

Why do you think it would again?

Might work better on a station with more power though.

Leave that format to Public Radio.

I keep bugging WFAE to do it on their HD2 stream. So far they aren't listening to me so I don't listen to them!

Agreed! Give us old folks something will ya?

WBT has enough talk.

Yep I agree again but a talk station that wasn't so political would be nice but we have that in "The Link"

Putting it on FM isn't going to matter.

Except some people will not turn to AM no matter what.

Wong, they couldn't sell Howard. Advertisers didn't want to touch his show and the show cost the station too much.

The ratings say that people like that....I don't but I'm different!

Just get an HD radio and listen to WFAE-HD2 okay?

Talking about Talk Radio - they talk too much!

Talk radio that talks too much????

Every time I tune to them, there's somebody laughing - is it really that funny?

Laugh and the world laughs with you...cry and you cry alone. It takes a sense of humor!

note my comments above between the comments of AMFM1

I'm enjoying my XM radio I finally have some great Oldies, Smooth Jazz and talk that is worth listening to without all the commercials. You can have local radio. I don't mind paying for XM and more people are doing the same.

Yo Mike, any good Polka music on XM Radio?

;)

Wow ya got me there! I think you still have to go to Buffalo or maybe Cleveland for Polka music. I hope they still have it there.

A friend of mine got his XM at the same time I did and he listens to nothing but the Spanish channels. He learned Spanish while teaching English to the Mexican and South American members of his church. He is totally immersed in the Spanish language.

One thing you can be sure of in radio is change. Another thing you can be sure of is that you won't find out about it in a forum until after the flip has happened.

You can speculate about this station or that station making a change, but any meaningful discussions about Charlotte flips are among corporate officers and they don't post their programming flip plans in the R.I. forum.

Yes, you're right Bro Dave.

But it's fun to speculate and there's time to kill 'til goin' home time. Besides, the corporate suits always get it wrong. So maybe some day they'll come here and afigure out how to do it right.
