Any Guesses For The #'s Coming Out?

Frankie Day (again) beats 540, 620, 730, 810, 860, 1080, 1250, and 1360, among others. Looks like 970 finally
has some traction.

Congratulations to WDVE for continuing to do what it takes to be successful in Pittsburgh despite all their detractors. (many on this board)
Congratulations to WPGB for their #2 ranking, quite an accomplishment in a market filled with liberals/progressives.
Congratulations to the Fan who quietly has carved out a 4 share in the market. Many on this forum pronounced them dead very early on in the format switch.
It's good to see stations succeed despite conventional wisdom.

Hmmm, I think you did not get the message. I guess it is just simple to say to you that what WDVE continues to do is actually not their doing, but CC's doing, and that is the mantra "protect the mothership". That is what CC Pittsburgh does at all costs. There is no winning formula that DVE does to obtain those ratings. It's the CC Pittsburgh "protect the mothership", which means hack off talents from their five other stations.

Exactly what in all of that was "in spite of conventional wisdom"?

DVE's biggest detractor here thinks they should play Kiss and hair bands.

WPGB is rarely lower than top 5. FYI, conservative talk gets good to great ratings almost everywhere, liberal talk is barely a format unless you live in places like Minneapolis or Portland. Aside from that, KDKA-AM was back to #3, so likely it's a combination of the campaigns starting to spark some interest, and a sample that skewed towards older demos (Kiss was down, as were Bob-FM and Y108).

The people who pronounced the Fan DOA mostly wanted 93.7 to go urban. (Having said that, the ratings would be absolutely amazing if the product wasn't awful).

And by the way, WKZV was on the air today (in fact, they played a PSA about protecting your skin from the sun that was so bad it was actually good).

WLTJ (Q92.9) hasn't had anything going for them for some time. It's nice to see Steel City Media having success on both of their frequencies. Sounds to me like they are taking the Star 100.7 template, broadening the music a little, and putting it on a much better signal, if not the best in the market. Sounds like a winner!

That seems to imply that there's something wrong with Kiss and hair bands.

If you're going to blaspheme, go all out.

Am I now the leading detractor of WDVE? Actually, I would like to praise them. Heard "Round and Round" a couple of times last week just by flipping through the dial. A tip of the cap, WDVE!

Think I also heard a Kiss song. Perhaps this is why they're staying on top. Now if we could only hear more AC/DC and less wimp stuff I might actually keep the station on.

The thing is, I'm not the leading detractor of WDVE. All over message boards we hear how the morning show is mailing it in.

WDVE is getting ratings because of force of listening habit and because it's the only place that is playing classic rock. If it had any competition, things might be a different story.

Our parents all left the dial set on 1020 till it froze there.

History repeats itself.

Not sure of why you'd think you're the leading detractor Pratteforlife (unless it's some silly back and forth between you and Parttimer, of which I could care less)...perhaps you're paranoid? Anyhow, yes there are a lot of people who KNOW the DVE morning show is mailing it in as well as the fact that DVE is treated as "the king" in the flashcube. That is not gossip or heresay, it is indeed witness of the way they (DVE and staff) are treated in comparison to others on the hill.

Yes... I poke fun where I know I'll get an interesting reaction.

I don't disagree ... but what specifically is awful about 93.7 the fan?

I wouldn't say awful, but two problems are teams that have no chemistry and the lack of a destination show. They're a year and a half into the format and there's no "must hear" show.

JKF- No, you're right. They are ALWAYS playing Rush.

And the reason is simple. I didn't notice this until they started playing a cut of Working Man at the Steelers games, but that song never ends.

This is why Rush has a washing machine and dryer on stage. "Working Man" actually lasts so long Geddy Lee has to change his clothes while playing it.
