FYI...it's illegal to sell a computer with an operating system. The license is non-transferrable.

Of course, the buyer can just reinstall Windows using the key already used by the PC...but MS throws a hissy fit if you don't do it that way.<P ID="signature">______________

...with a Microsoft operating system, that is. Other companies' operating systems have different licensing agreements, or no licensing needed at all. For example, of course Linux is distributed freely, but what you may not know is that Apple offers free downloads of older versions of Mac OS on their web site (and has for many years).

Hey Sam
Are you sure about that dell does it everyday.. I believe if its installed Its Ok..
Every computer I ever bought new or used came with the OS installed.
Provided that OS license was used for the 1 machine Only.
He cannot take the OS and key off the Computer and sell that seperate. Or install it in another computer.
I believe if he sells it with the Origonal OS installed with the Origonal CD and Key thats licensed for that PC. Its ok.. the License is not by USERS Name
Its Per PC.
an example is I bought a Very expensive Antivirus software for my Network
Its Licensed for 30 PC's I dont think it makes a difference whos PC I install it on.As long as I dont install it on more than 30 PC's I have not Violated the Licensing agreement.
Once I install it on the 31st PC at that point I would have broken the Licensing agreement, and it deemed illegal. The MS OS license is 1 license Per machine.
BTW I got this info From my wifes cousin. not sure of his exact title, But hes one of the bigshots at Microsoft Im sure he knows what hes talking about.
