Any KDFC news?

How is Classical KDFC-102.1 doing the the latest PPM. I know PPM was responsible for the demise of Smooth Jazz on 103.7, but has it affected KDFC at all? Of course I don't see Entercom dumping the Classical format, but i can see them park both the KDFC call letters & Classical Format on the lesser signal of 95.7 and seeing Entercom doing something different on 102.1. Honestly I don't think Entercom will continue Country The Wolf though I maybe wrong. And No, I am not going to predict a "Q-102"! LOL!

C'mon, predict it, predict it!!! You can do it!!
I will predict the following:Entercom moving KDFC to 95.7 and upgrading KBWF's signal: 102.1 The Wolf. or moving KDFC to 95.7 and creating a new station @ 102.1. It could be a "Q-102", "Rock 102", "New Rock 102", "Now 102", "News/Talk 102"........Or it could stay status quo..KBWF @ 95.7 & KDFC @ 102.1. This being the most likely scenario.

Why move KDFC to 95.7? Why not just put the new format on 95.7?
The nationwide trend for Classical Music Radio Stations seems like the owners are moving the station to a lesser signal (KBOQ to 103.9), or to the AM dial (Entercom moving KXTR to 1660) or move it to a HD-2 signal (KMZT @ 105.1-HD2). It might be a different situation for San Francisco market.

Isn't 95.7 a better full market signal than 102.1

When both 95.7 and 102.1 were doing classical they were always neck and neck. I assume the signals are pretty much comparable.

In my personal experience - and especially in cars, 102.1 has more static and interference. It could be that classical music (with often quieter musical passages) makes the static more noticeable than frequencies that play raucous country or rock. Or maybe its the frequency. 93.3 and 105.3 are two other frequencies that seem to have a problem with static and interferrence. I wasn't listening to classical in the old KKHI days, so I can't compare apples to apples.

At times, I find the static on 102.1 irritating, and will tune in something else. I recall that same irritation when trying to listen to Alex Bennett in the car on Live 105...back in ancient times...I think I was driving a 38 Hupmobile at the time...

I can pick up KDFC-102.1 in Stockton. Even better than nearby KNTY-101.9. As for KBWF-95.7, I get lots of interference from KBYN-95.9. Isn't KDFC a Class B station and KBWF a Class A station?

95.7 KBWF and 102.1 KDFC broadcasts from 2 different sites. 95.7 has their tower on San Bruno Mountain while 102.1 broadcasts from Beacon Hill (above the Waldo Tunnel). I would imagine that 102.1's signal would be better in the North Bay because of the transmitter being farther north, and with less obstructions towards that particular direction compared with San Bruno Mountain and Sutro Tower sites.

Looking at the FCC website, it appears that 93.3 KRZZ has a construction permit to build a transmitter on San Bruno Mountain as well. Does anyone know if this is meant as a backup transmitter or is it going to be a permanent move from the San Leandro transmitter site?

No, 93.3, 95.7, 102.1, and 105.3 are all Class B signals. 105.3 and 102.1 are "grandfathered" at higher powers than would be authorized for a new Class B station.

Of the four, 102.1 has by a fair (but not huge) margin the biggest *theoretical* signal. But with the stations transmitting from different sites, and given the difficult terrain in the Bay Area, any one of the four is likely to be the "best" signal depending on who's asking!

95.7 does circles around 102.1 in the Eastbay area (Pleasanton/Tri-Valley/I-680 corridor). The multi-path is less severe from all these well intentioned boosters that only creat more on-channel noise. If Entercom is trying to reach the country audience in these parts, they would be smart to just stay put. The noise table on 96.5 and 102.1 seemed to overwhelm most factory car radios that I have used throughout this area. The classical music processing requirements only add to the noise table challenge. Other frequencies that perform well around here are 93.3 (due to the TL -- why in Castro Valley instead of San Bruno or The Sutro??) and 98.1, 99.7, 101.3, 104.5, 107.7. The rest are touch and go. 106.9 is the absolute worse IMHO.

Of the four, I can only pick up KDFC-102.1. I could never receive 93.3 because of KHLX-93.1 (before that KOSO) & KKBN-93.5 & 105.3 because of KNCI-105.1 & KRVR-105.5. I used to pick up 95.7 before KBYN-95.9 signed on. I have always picked up KDFC except for a period of time when KLIQ from Shingle Springs was located at 102.1 in 1989.

But you don't count because you're an out of market listener. What matters is the metropolitan Bay Area, and I still say that 95.7 and 102.1 are comparable signals. They competed directly head to head for dozens of years and averaged the same size audience. I think that says something about their having comparable signals.

It would be nice to hear a new station, the market can use one. Sacramento has a variety of station musically. Too bad, we do not have that choice. these are the Stations that sound old and stale; KFOG, Alice, K101, Kiss, KBLX. I can live with KDFC on 102.1 it is still listenable
