Any idea of any new channels on the horizon? And just
throwing this out there but I wonder why the TRIB
and the SUN-TIMES can't agree on the same channel no.
for lp ch 35/68?

This is TBN's translator licensed to Palatine we're taking about, right? I believe it was originally on 68 but may be moving to 35... Or it could be the other way around since 34 Arlington Heights is a Class A station and would get interference protection from a 35.

W36AO from Palatine
W22AJ from Arlington Heights
W57DN from Elgin

Is this list wrong?

According to the FCC CDBS, the only translator licensed to Palatine is W68DO which the TBN station. Looking at the callsign history, however, they were previously licensed as W36AO:

W36AO 12/08/1987 (the date being the start date of the calls)

W68DO, however, has been in existence since 11/25/2002.

I also ran the other 2...

Arlington Heights has been relicensed as W64CQ.

W22AJ 05/27/1987

W57DN appears to have not changed at all.

Channel 35 is not a TBN translator station. It's the full-powered (5 million watts) WWTO in La Salle, which does a fairly decent job of covering some of the Western suburbs. I live in Oswego, and it comes in better here than most of the Chicago stations. And because of WWTO's partial coverage of Chicagoland, it's sometimes included as one of the metro area's stations.

No doubt 68 and 64 will have to be relicensed again in the future, as they're in frequencies that will be out of bounds for TV broadcasting in the future.

As for your first question, I think that is it for now, unless
WGN tries again to carry "The Tube" music channel, which
would be cool (my opinion; HD purists would curse it).
Of course, it would be nice to see WGBO-DT and WXFT-DT back on
the air after 2 months of broadcasting null packets (except
WGBO is broadcasting PSIP data).

WWTO-DT will go to 16 kw by Halloween on channel 10, so it will
be the first VHF digital TV station to sign on at full power
in the Chicago market. They are currently on the air, but
running at a ridiculously low 55 watts ERP, using a setup from
Radio Shack (I kid you not!). Because of their tall tower and
being on VHF-HI, they will get out 60+ miles in almost every
direction.

Yep, channel 68 broadcasts from Sears, 57 from Elgin.
I can barely get them both in DeKalb. I can't verify
the others.

W36AO got bumped to 68 to make way for WJYS-DT 36, which took to the air in 2004. It will get bumped again during the next three years as TV channels 52 - 69 are reallocated to land mobile use, much like the way 70 - 83 were eliminated.

This channel began life as a Juke Box Channel station with a COL of Palatine. It became paired with W23AT Mokena in 1989 which later changed COL to Chicago, changed callsign to WFBT-CA, and is now WWME-CA.

Really 68 from Sears? I get LP 23, 48 and 34 really well, I am on near NW side of Chicago, but can't get 68 at all.

Wonder what is up with that.

Funny thing is WWME is the clearest channel of all. <P ID="signature">______________
