Any new info on KDWN?

Was in Vegas 2 weeks ago and listened probably for the last time to 720 KDWN as we have known it. They are probably making money with all their brokered shows and believe it or not Hart Kirch. Jim Dalles,Ken Stahl and Truman Hawkins are top flight broadcasters if not for constant intrusions for info shows and brokered shows. Part time Pete is hilarious as I listened to him one hour and his demos must be 75=95. I heard a few callers ask about sale and changes and this would not be open to discussion on air. I heard the night time show with Mark Edwards on illegals and this seemed quite popular. Any one believe their will be a total change or complete changeover. The market is oversaturated with sport stations and this seems unlikely to me they would go that way. Also noticed no mention of Plaza Hotel in legal IDs. Does this mean they are renting space instead of trade off? Will new ownership move their cluster of stations into Plaza or will KDWN move into their facility. Any updates will be welcome

It may not seem likely to you, but there are a number of factors pointing toward a sports format.Sports will lower the demos on KDWN dramatically. Staying the course with conservative talk won't.Those other sports stations all have weaker signals. 50,000 watts on 720 will blow them away in the ears of advertisers and eventually listeners.Beasley has a track record in sports talk. It has no track record in conservative talkers. KDWN has plenty of veteran talent but in a way that's the problem. The station has basically been allowed to "age in place." Virtually the entire local lineup is eligible for Social Security. Younger talents who could have modernized the sound either quit or were driven away. The current talent plus the lack of call screening leaves the station with an impression of being cranky and on the fringe. One joke on Usenet is that KDWN stands for "Kooks, Dimwits, Wackos and Nuts." 720 missed its window of opportunity to become a talk radio institution in Vegas long ago. It's out of energy and ideas. Beasley has none to bring it in the political talk field. Beasley knows sports. The KDWN we know and love ;) must go.

Yes it is going sports. Tom Davis is the market manager, and they have not tried to hide the fact with clients that it will be all sports.

kdum --they were too cheap to pay the going rate for limbaugh, bell etc.they probably made more with the informercials....which was on their station in the past.....with that signal...evening and nite going into LA, Bay Area, etc... sports should do well....if they take internet gaming ads...and vegas hotel packages etc...I'd charge top dollar to promote stupper bowl packages and march madness stuff and nascar--lv speedway stuff....It should be a great deal for a good sales person..they could stream some stuff on the net too...the female demo might be weak...for home builder ads though....I wonder if savage goes to kdox? and I wonder where all the immigration stuff will go? klav ? and what about the informercials promising 3 foot long eliminations...

"and what about the informercials promising 3 foot long eliminations..."Heard that infomercial on a small market Clear Channel "News-Talk" station 9:10 AM on a Tuesday morning. Limbaugh started @ 10! $$$ talk.

KDWN? Bob Massi

the informercials can be entertaining. the attorney BOB Massi, doctor and garden show hosts do a good job ...I hope they show up elsewhere
