Any new KFI ratings?

Any new PPM data on Bill Carroll? Why are they keeping this dud around?

25-54 in Noon-3 PM is doing better than 9 AM - Noon in the January book. We´ll have another book tomorrow.

They added an hour to him so he can't be doing that bad. ;)

Not necessarily. It's either paying him peanuts or John and Ken for the extra hour which probably was several fold of what they pay Bill. Once J&K lost their only affliate, it made no sense to have them do 5 hours just for the LA Market since they already have trouble filling 4 hours with original content. They essentially repeat the content of their 3-5pm slot in the 5 to 7pm slot.

They probably couldn't hire anyone to do an hour either. Too bad Dr. Dean Edell retired otherwise they could have put his hour long show there.

I would prefer they put Frost Stillwell in Bill's slot. His is the only show I try and catch on the weekends. I like the fact that he isn't spewing talking points from the RNC or the DNC. He has his own opinions.

I like Carroll alright, but I'd love to hear Clark Howard back on the air here.

I think they will keep Carroll around. He must have a guaranteed contract to have made the move to LA from a successful gig. He fills in well for Handel, who has indicated that he'll leave sometime in a few years. There's a LOT of breaking news both locally and nationally and having Carroll in the 12-3 slot allows KFI to capitalize on the need-to-know on breaking events.

The 12-3 slot is hardly huge timeslot. What else would they put there? I like Clark Howard, but he's a snoozer ratings-wise. Live, local and opinionated is the way to go.

10-3 is the #1 daypart (highest Persons Using Radio), and Carroll does as well as Limbaugh... both average around 21,000 AQH persons 25-54 (I don't include 12+ since that number is irrelevant on the business side of radio). And Carroll was up from the January book in the just released February book, indicating some real strength.

10-3 is #1? Why is it then that the morning and afternoon drive personalities are the most marketed and (presumably) the highest paid?

Drivetime listeners are active - in their car, on the train, whatever. The radio can command their attention. Midday listeners are passive - at their desks, in their cubes. The radio is background noise, a companion, not an entertainer so much.

Now, talk radio is a different beast than musicradio, which is where my area of expertise is, so I may be a little off in regards to talk. But that's the general answer to your question.

That's the reality of PPM... and whey in many markets the high profile and high pay morning talents have seen the money dry up, or the show be canceled.

In LA, the PUR in mornings is just over 10, mid-days it is 13 and afternoons about 12 (it moves within a range, mostly due to seasonal factors, etc.).

So, prior to PPM, did the diary data show that morning drive was #1, afternoon drive #2 and midday #3? But when PPM came out, those assumptions were turned upside down? If so, it seems to me that personalities like Seacrest, Handel (or John & Ken), Mark & Brian, etc. should move to middays but it isn't happening. What am I missing?

The LA Times had an article on the ratings yesterday. KFI was mentioned since it is doing well, but there was no mention of KABC and even the chart that showed the top 20 or so stations didn't show KABC. What happened?

Where is KABC. Did it improve over the last book?. Was Bob Moore's big experiment of bringing back a failed host a success?
