Any New Thoughts On WJQS/Jackson?

Had a lot of chatter awhile back about WJQS/Jackson's Radio Shopping Show. I've done some research and the show is working great in Chicago Suburbs and Las Vegas.

Any more thoughts about WJQS? I've tried to stream them but am unable to.

The owner of WJQS also bought a 1kw AM near Memphis to do the same thing (some talk, some brokered, and radio shopping).

When I first heard WJQS I thought that the format was pretty original. I tune it in about once a week, but honestly, at the risk of sounding critical, it has become a bore. In the beginning they were a lot more enthusiastic. . . .their curent announcers sound lethargic about the whole thing. They need to find some talent to liven it up and make it entertaining.

I just checked their web site their shoppers guide has not been updated since February 20 (nothing like skipping a month!). Glad they are not running the weather station! The best I can figure, the owners left for Memphis and put WJQS way on the back burner.

Fran, you're right. I got to stream them for an hour today during the 4-5 hour. The host was brutal and they only had 3 callers the entire hour. Obviously they're not doing any promotion, although they did have some new clients.

If you want to hear how it's supposed to sound, minus the hokey Midwest accents, go to wbig1280.com. That's where they originated the format and they've got it down. Energetic hosts that know what they're talking about. Lots of callers (buyers). They easily earn several hundred dollars each hour. Considering how much they run Radio Shopping, they're probably making $3-5k a day just off the shopping. I would conservatively estimate the 2 AMs in Chicago and the AM in Las Vegas bring in over $1M each.

At least that's my impression and estimates. I could be wrong and, obviously, Jackson isn't Chicago or Las Vegas. But, $40 in cash sales for a 4-5 PM hour isn't much. Unless they're paying the hosts in gym fees and nail services.

I listened to the Chicago station for the first time – they were entertaining and there is not much I can add to what you said. Unlike JQS, the Chicago station had a never-ending stream of callers (most spending around $50 and complaining that they had to wait an hour to get through), so I can see where they would generate over a million a year.

I went to listen to JQS this morning but they were not airing their shopping show, even though their web site said they were. Geeze. If JQS could figure out how to make their station sound and operate like the one in Chicago, they would have a winner. How’s that for ending on a positive note!

The station's format has changed, but the horrible shopping show remains. Hopefully, it will be gone soon - along with the syndicated drama show that aired last night around 6:00.

Wasn't WJQS the station for the Tales of Mscabre mystry theater show that aired back in the seventies? That show freaked me out as a kid. They alway signed of with the announcer saying "plesent dreams" Wish they would bring that show back.

everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I really like WJQS. That music they are playing is awesome. No other station offers that kind of format. I have to admit I have also gotten addicted to the radio shopping thing they have. I registered and got the key tag number in the mail. whats wrong with big savings. man, they offer awesome opportunities to save some major bucks. tune em in guys.
