Any news on Blu 102.9 ?

The sale of KLBU was announced last spring. Since it usually takes around four months for things to grind through the system, it would seem the deal should close soon. Anyone close to the situation have an update, and any clues as to what format changes might take place? The station has been jockless for several months now.

I listen to the station online, BTW. Enjoy it, but will also admit that the Chill format may have run its course--the 00's version of disco.

The BLU format was pretty much targeted at the large homosexual population of Santa Fe. Unfortunately the genre was far too narrow and got tiresome. Many listeners encouraged them to add trance, ambient and other styles, but the purists won out. I believe the biggest mistake they made was to drop the excellent "Brave New World" show, which featured international music. That was a statement to listeners that the musical offering was narrowing, when listeners had expressed a wider field.

I would agree that Blu would appeal to the GLBT community, but I've never thought of it as primarily targeting those demographics. I enjoyed it because it was different, with a playlist nobody else had. A nice alternative to Smooth Jazz, which has gotten rather tiresome, at least here in Houston.

Seems the Blu playlist was somewhat broader in their earlier days. Appeared to have narrowed quite a bit in this past year.

And I really like Ambient, but prefer it as a standalone format, not mixed with other genres. "Drone Zone" on SomaFM.com is pretty cool, IMHO.

I miss "Sunday Morning Blu" which was a nice change of pace, especially the Brian Eno tracks.

There are other alternatives for Chill, such as the Groovera.com formats, as well as some of the SomaFM.com offerings. I recall that slacker.com has both "Chill" and "Alternative Chill" streams!
