Any news on Wired?

Maybe I am late on this but there has been a lot of personnel exiting the door (some not by choice) in the programming and promotion dept's at Wired. Heard rumors that an active or modern rock format could be coming as soon as today.

Anyone have any info?

Thanks,

I heard they are going "top 40"...either way, they better do something quick cause as of the info I got this morning Wired just dropped behind The Beat in rank 18-34 (5th to 6th) in the latest trend. OUCH!

Considering the ownership--and the fact that CC could potentially flip Q102 to Talk at any minute--what are the chances that Wired would go Rock as opposed to morphing into a Mainstream CHR?

PS- Regarding the people who are rumored to have been fired at Wired: Did this happen today or slowly, over the course of the recent past?

With all of the conjecture about talk coming to FM again, they should beat everyone to the punch, revive the WWDB calls and go full blown talk, yesterday. The longest held format 96.5 has been associated with is talk. But here again, were are talking about Beasley Broadcasting.

I wouldn't if I were them. Because Clear Channel wouldn't get beaten. CC'd launch their version anyway and then they'd use their considerable wealth and existing talent pool to sweep Beasley under the rug for good! Then the fools would have to start all over again with 96.5.

I believe it was 2 years ago from tomorrow (November 17th) that Wild.... oops, I mean Wired 96.5 signed on. Wouldn't that be something if they changed formats 2 years to the date?

that's funny, because a few of their sales people have come up to chester county to interview for WCOJ. I guess that would explain the migration.

yeah but, it's not like Chico and the burrito bunch is a good solid talk show if q102 should flip to talk. we discovered that cousin Ed could survive if 94.1 added more talk to it's weekly schedule. Q would have to find all new programs, hand lisa paige a pink slip.

please, lisa is the only one who sounds halfway intelligent on that show...too bad this isn't tv, nice to look at =)

wired needs to get rid of this big momma fool...i was in the car the other morning and turned on wired.....for about 10 minutes big momma was playing "i spy" with the other morning show folks (who, IMHO, sound like they were on their first day of a HS radio station). Yes, lets play I-Spy on *THE RADIO*. And not interactive with the listener - REAL good.

AllAccess reports he got a new gig last week, I believe in FLA but I could be wrong.

Why the hell would CC flip Q102? You've mentioned this on other threads, and I still don't get what kind of crack you are smoking? They have a heritage in the market, they pull good ratings, and bill very well.

You make no sense whatsoever. The station CC would flip to talk would be Sunny 104.5 before anything else.

Heritage in the market means jack (BLEEP) anymore. See Y100 as an example. See the old WWDB as an example. See WYSP as an example.

Just because Sunny gets lower ratings doesn't mean they lose more money. Q102 is more expensive to run... with marginally better ratings. In the end... it may be more lucrative to keep Sunny and dump Q102 because they lose more money on Q.

So whatever crack he is smoking.. should be pretty pure. Can I try some?<P ID="signature">______________

The only way Sunny makes more money is ZERO overhead, there are no live DJs on that station at all.

And I don't think Q102 is going anywhere anytime soon.

Actually, as far as CHR morning shows go, I think Chio and the gang do a good job. They are creative in their contests for sure, interact with callers well, and always make sure the things they talk about are fresh. It could be a lot worse in that format!

Isn't Q102 the only mainstream CHR station in Philly (I'm relatively new to the area)? They are the only ones consistently playing top 40 pop rock now since Y100 was taken away. I don't see any advantage of flipping Q102 - with all of the rythmic stations in this city, they almost have a mainstream CHR niche.

Wired 96.5, on the other hand, is a weird station. It sounds like they're going to flip or change something for sure. If they switched to alternative rock, they'd be going against the national trend of alt rock stations drying up. But I do believe it could work around here with some effort and the right community outreach. Flipping to mainstream CHR would be a tough battle for them ... they'd have to somehow win over the loyal listeners of Q102.

Thanks for backing me up there. I always find it hilarious when people try to argue with others and they use complete bullshit like that stuff as their evidence. "Heritage!" And thinking that Sunny's rev is lower than Q's because of the 12+ ratings... I mean, get a clue!

PS- I don't share my crack. Sorry.

I don't really disagree with anything that you're saying... but winning over Q102's listeners wouldn't be hard at all. They're mostly youngsters and a CHR's audience has always been the most fickle audience of all. That's why CHR wars are always so interesting. (Not that anyone in Philly remembers what a CHR war is like.)
